maintained by the Secretary of the Interior. The records are stored
and maintained by the BLM Eastern States, 7450 Boston Boulevard,
Springfield, Virginia 22153. The public may contact or visit the
Eastern States Public Room at the above address, Monday through Friday
(excluding Federal holidays), from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.(eastern
standard time).

OVERVIEW:

This state-of-the-art records management system can provide you with
computer access to more than 5 million land patents from the Bureau of
Land Management (BLM) Eastern States' repository. By using a modern
computer system, the BLM General Land Office (GLO) Automated Records
System uses sophisticated database technology to enable fast access to
the Bureau's land documents.

These documents, dating back to the late 1700's, are of great
historical value. They are often the only available source offering the
identification of legal land descriptions and transfer of property
ownership from the U.S. Government to private land owners. The BLM GLO
Automated Records System is preserving the quality of these original
documents also increasing their availability to the public.

Before this system, the BLM housed all 5 million documents in their
facilities and had to search manually for these documents using a tract
book system. It could take hours or even days to find a document.
Now, by using the GLO Automated Records System, any document in the
system can be found in a matter of minutes.

The GLO Automated Records System allows you to search for a document by
Name, Document Number, Land Office, Legal Land Description, County,
Document Type, Title Transfer Authority, or any combination of these.

The BLM Eastern States is responsible for maintaining and protecting the
Secretary of the Interior's official copies of more than 5 million GLO
records, while providing prompt, professional, and courteous service to
its customers. The GLO Automated Records Project is providing that
capability through automation involving optical imaging technology.

The GLO CD-ROM is the first in the Digital Data Series of CD-ROM's
produced by the Bureau of Land Management. This new publication series
is intended to improve distribution of important information to the
public. The disk contains the results of work performed by Dynamic
Concepts, Inc., Operating Contractor for the Bureau of Land Management,
as part of the GLO program, and by the Bureau of Land Management.

Data may be retrieved by Patentee name, document number, document
authority, legal land description, or any combination of these criteria.
Once a satisfactory retrieval is made, the data may be output in dBASE
format or several ASCII formats to the user's hard disk. Context-
sensitive help files are available.

The Bureau of Land Management has taken special measures to assure that
you are provided with the best service and quality of products available
from the GLO Automated Records System. The BLM also welcomes your
opinions and ideas regarding the features and operation of this system.
