WINTER ROAD, Korea 1950---BRIEFING: The United Nations push
to the Yalu has seen increasing contact with personnel from
the Chinese Communist Forces who have crossed from Manchuria
to support the crumbling North Korean Army as it is driven
back to the border. As the UN forces advance north along
the primitive road net, supply convoys struggling to keep up,
NKA and CCF troops infiltrating through the mountains and
setting up roadblocks have become a serious menace and large
groupings have mauled several ROK Army detachments.

Task Force Winter has been assigned to secure the key road
junction and supply road through Koto-ni against infiltrators.
Colonel Winter has sent a reinforced company ahead to secure the
route and escort a column of heavy artillery to firing positions
in Koto-ni. The snow has cut visibility in the mountains, but
is not yet a serious obstacle to movement. Air support is
available as necessary.

DESIGN NOTES: I suggest playing the U.S. until you get tired or
win a DV, then trying the CCF. The map and units were designed
starting with a generated battle which was customized and tested
using the editor. The American forces in Korea had a WW2-hardened
officer corps but a lot of raw recruits in the ranks, and relied
heavily on superior firepower and C3 combined with mobility through
motor transport. The CCF relied on small arms, mortars and machine
guns, all carried on foot, and the ranks contained many veterans
of the Chinese Civil War. Load this file into your SCEN
subdirectory to receive the pre-battle briefing.
Note: VP wise, the town and the road home are the most
important, but VPs here aren't as important as in other
SP Scenarios--VP hexes range from 10-40VPs. I recommend turning unit
tags on lest the US and CCF units look too much alike (unless you want
to simulate some of the real-life confusion of the war in this period).
