IRISH GENEALOGICAL DATABASE

A GENEALOGICAL DATABASE ON FLOPPY DISK

Thank you for giving our Irish Genealogical Databases a try. To
use, be sure all the files (except this text file) are in one
directory, or on one disk, and that the current path is the same
as that containing the files. Thus, you can put all files on a
floppy and put it in "A" drive, but then you can only run it from
"A" drive, not with a command like "C>A:IRE1" from the "C" drive.
To run the program, type "IRE1" and then simply follow
instructions on the screen. To print a particular entry, get the
desired name on the screen, move the highlight to that name using
the cursor keys, then press "ENTER" so the reference for that
name is displayed at the bottom of the screen. Be sure your
printer is on. Press the shift key and the "PrtSC" (Print Screen)
keys at the same time, to print the information you see on the
screen.

This sample of an Irish database is shareware--that means you are
encouraged to make copies and pass them on to your friends and
acquaintances. Other data disks are $5 each, program disks $10
each, and available only to registered users. You become a
registered user by sending a one time $20 fee, that is good for
life. Not only will you then be able to purchase all of our data
and program disks at these low prices, but you will receive "GDI
Update" regularly, informing you of available databases and
programs, as well as work in progress. Register now by sending
$20 to Andrew J. Morris, P.O. Box 535, Farmington, Ml 48332.

This "Irish Genealogical Database #1" contains over 20,000
names, and for each name there is listed an event (such as birth,
marriage, death), a date, location (within Ireland), and full
reference that will allow you to find the listing in the original
source. Names in this database were derived from Griffiths
Valuation, Tithe Applotment Books, Parish Registers, and various
published sources. A search program is included with the data, so
you can find the exact name you are looking for--it will even
search for variant spellings of the surname!

The information in this database was entered using Genealogical
Data Indexer (GDI), an extended format indexing program available
to registered users for $10, and Genealogical File Indexer (GFI)
a soon to be released companion program to GDI. GDI allows for
the rapid entry of data, including full name, event, date,
locality and reference. GFI is similar, but designed to capture
information that is already on a computer disk, by capturing text
off the screen, or importing data in various fixed formats. If
there is enough demand, future versions will be expanded to
include capture of data from GEDCOM files and other popular
genealogy programs. Advance orders for GFI are currently being
accepted, we expect to have copies ready for shipping sometime
soon.

GDI and GFI will print out indexes to books and records, and the
files they generate can be used to create databases such as this
Irish Genealogical Database #1. We will create the database from
your data files, customized to show your name and copyright
notice, so you can then sell your database disks as you would any
book. Or you can contribute data for inclusion in our databases--
for each 1,000 names you submit, you may select one free database
of your choice, or $5 worth of microfiche from my catalog
containing hundreds of titles! Imagine if every genealogist and
local genealogical society would index the records for their area
and make them available in this convenient format!

We plan to continue offering new databases as fast as we can
enter new names (and that's fast using GDI), and hope others will
use GDI and GFI to organize information as well. Our long range
goal is to have hundreds of these databases available, on floppy
disks or CD-ROM. Now we also offer books on disk: Genealogical
texts, complete -- including a search and display program. We
also have other computer programs in the works that will be of
interest to genealogists. All of our data disks and books on disk
are available to registered users for $5 each, and program disks
(like GDI or GFI) cost just $10 each. The $20 registration
fee is good for life, and ensures you receive notification of new
disks as they become available. Become a registered user today by
sending $20 to: Andrew J. Morris, P.O. Box 535, Farmington, MI
48332.

Make all checks to Andrew J. Morris, MI residents add sales tax,
foreign residents add shipping.
