  NETWARE OS/2 REQUESTER INSTALLATION NOTES:
FOR THE INTEL EtherExpress(tm) 16 FAMILY OF NETWORK ADAPTERS
  ============================================================

This document applies to the EtherExpress(tm) 16, 16TP, 16C, MCA, and
MCA TP. It contains notes for installing the OS/2 requester.
It does not explain how to configure an EtherExpress board. For
instructions about configuring the board, see either the Expert's
Guide or the Complete Guide for your board.

A more detailed version of this document is available on FaxBACK.
  Document #6314.

  INTRODUCTION:
  -------------
To connect an OS/2 workstation to a NetWare server, you will need
NetWare's OS/2 Requester and the EtherExpress OS/2 ODI driver. This
document outlines the installation process and assumes you are using
the INSTALL program that ships with Novell's OS/2 requester. If you
are using an older version of the requester that does not include the
INSTALL program, order FaxBACK document 6314. For more information
about OS/2 workstations, see the Novell manual "NetWare Requester for
  OS/2."

  PROCEDURE:
  ----------
  1. Run Novell's INSTALL utility on the OS/2 requester diskette and
follow Novell's instructions. When asked to enter the name of
the network interface driver enter: EXP16ODI.SYS.

  2. Choose the session support you need. This is based on your
configuration. See the NetWare Requester manual if you need
     help.

  3. Save the configuration.

  4. When asked to enter the path and filename for the driver, insert
the EtherExpress disk in drive A and enter:
     A:\NETWARE.ODI\EXP16ODI.SYS

The Config.sys file will modified to include the statement:
     DEVICE=C:\NETWARE\EXP16ODI.SYS

  5. When the installation section is complete, select CONFIGURATION
from INSTALL's main menu, then select THIS WORKSTATION. This
will allow you to modify the NET.CFG file.

NOTE: The default frame type for EXP16ODI.SYS is 802.2. If you
using the more common 802.3 frame type, make sure you
include a FRAME statement in the NET.CFG file.

     Example:

     LINK DRIVER EXP16ODI
      PORT xxx
      FRAME ETHERNET_802.3
      PROTOCOL IPX 0 ETHERNET_802.3
     PROTOCOL IPX
      BIND EXP16ODI

Where port xxx matches the I/O address you selected in Softset
for the EtherExpress 16 or in the System Configuration utility
     for the EtherExpress MCA.

  TROUBLESHOOTING:
  ----------------
To verify the driver loaded properly in the Config.sys file, put
a "fake" device= statement following the EXP16ODI.SYS line. The
screen will stop and you can check for error messages.

The OS/2 error message "not getting a connection ID" is often
related to a cable problem. Make sure the cable is attached and the
right connector is chosen in Softset for the EtherExpress 16 or in
the System Configuration utility for the EtherExpress MCA.

The driver and NET.CFG file are typically in the NETWARE
subdirectory. Verify they exist and that the NET.CFG file contains
  the correct entries.
