In reference to the DEU.TXT file:
HERETIC should be put in for all references to DOOM.
Everything else should work the same, with the exception of references
  to the monsters, items, etc....

In reference to the source code:
All I did was change the definitions to correspond with HERETIC's objects.
At the time of creation I was working with the REGISTERED version and could
test actually saving a level which worked. I had no problems creating or
  editing any levels.

In reference to editing:
There are some THINGS that are not available to the SHAREWARE version.
Those are hte Hellstaff, the Phoenix Rod and the Firemace, along with their
respective ammo items, as well as some monsters.
There may be some LINEDEF or SECTOR types that I missed, but I don't think
so. If I did, leave a message on Ziggyuken BBS (817) 558-4600 to
  Terry Wilkes and tell me:
    The TYPE #
    What it does
Where it is, eg: E?M? - Quadrant: UL, UR, LL, LR

Inreference to the VESA/SVGA colors:
It's not my fault. That's the palette that Heretic uses and the original
DEU source code was not set up to work with it, so I didn't mess with it.
DOOM's 1st 16 colors were the normal ones that are on any CGA/EGA/VGA
  system. Heretic's is totally different.

If anyone has any questions or comments on the "changes" I made, leave a note
on the above BBS. If you have questions about how to use HEU-HACK, read the
DEU.TXT or contact the original makers of DEU.
