HERE 1.0 Beta 4

DESCRIPTION

Here is a freeware program that allows you to easily post
your ever-changing dynamic PPP or SLIP Internet address to a
finger account, thereby allowing others to look up your
current Internet address and contact you.

Here also includes a finger client to allow you to easily
check the PPP or SLIP address postings of other Here users.

Since other users will now be able to locate your current
address, you will be able to use talk servers such as
WinTalk; FTP servers such as WinQV/Net, Serv-U, and WFTPD;
and HTTP servers such as HTTPD and ZB Server.

MINIMUM HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

Here is available in two compilations, one for Win16 and one
for Win32. Both compilations require an IBM compatible PC
with a 386+ microprocessor and Winsock 1.1+. The Win16
version requires Windows 3.1+ and the Win32 version requires
Windows 95, NT, or 3.1 with Win32s.

VERSION AND DOWNLOAD INFORMATION

The latest version of Here is 1.0 Beta 4, which has the
following changes from the previous version:

  - Introduction of Win32 compilation for Windows 95 and
    NT.
  - Fix for displaying information from finger servers
that fail to use CR/LF pairs.
  - Fix for FTP servers using multiline replies.
  - Fix to set time outs during autoposts.
  - Removed automatic prompt for missing FTP login
information on startup. This allows Here to be used
simply as a full finger client, even if finger and
FTP server facilities are not available for posting.
  - Removed some double error messages.

The latest version can be downloaded from the Here Home

INSTALLATION

After unzipping the archive, you will have six files:

     here16.exe
     here32.exe
     here.hlp
     here.wri
     here.txt
     file_id.diz

Create a new directory (for example, c:\here) and copy all
of the files into it. Then add a Here Program Item to one
of your Program Manager groups.

File here16.exe is the Win16 version for Windows 3.1 and
here32.exe is the Win32 compilation for Windows 95 and NT.
You can, of course, delete one of these two files if you
will only be using one of them.
