The following are notes about experiences installing, or running
different CD's. We feel you would be interested in knowing these
things. These notes are not ment to prevent you from purchasing
the CD's mentioned in this document, however, they are ment to
help you, and make installing and running these CD's easier. If
anyone of you reading this have any comments about the above
titles, or any others, please feel free to call us, or send them
to us, and we'll add them to the CD-NOTES.TXT file.

When installing the Grolier's Encyclopedia, we recommend that you
have at least 530K of available free memory, for running it, or
you might get an error. It's not hard to install. We recommend
that you read the ENCYCLO.TXT file that comes with your Grolier's
Encyclopedia, which we scanned onto disk for you.

for Bible Library, there's a bible batch file called CDBIBLE.BAT,
and edit this batch file, and REM out the Clipit in that batch
file, or run it by typing BIBL F: ENTER
Whatever your CD-ROM drive is. when running the Bible Library,
they told me at the company, that it's like this: "Thou Shalt be
no other TSR Before ME." But never fear, it does work with ASAP,
and should work with other screen readers, as well. We've been
selling it, and haven't gotten too much feedback, other than what
I have put in this file. from Pat Ferguson

We received the article about VIDRAM, from a customer in Malta.
It states that with HAL Screen Reader, one can use the Compton's
Family Encyclopedia with the VIDRAM enabled, turns the graphical
text into readable ASCII text, and of course, lets one use it
only in a text mode. We are very grateful to Andrew Camilleri
for the article on cassette.

We don't know, however if this will work with any other screen
reader, however, we will find out and be letting you know in
future comments in this document.

We received a new version of Bible Library dated 1992. We hope
the problem listed below much further in this document, is solved
in this version.

History of the World: Type install, and use the Disc Passage
Batch file, called DP.BAT, here it is:

D:
cd \DISCPASS
if '%TMP%'=='' set TMP=D:\DISCPASS
dpsg.exe %1 %2 %3 -vtextonly
cd \

This batch file is on the CD, when you purchase it, however the
following text must be in the third line of the batch file, along
with a space after the last percent 3. Here is that text.
-vtextonly

This is very important, as if you don't have a vidio card that it
supports, you won't be able to run it.

This same batch file works for Great Literature, just type LIT,
from your CD-ROM, and it will find the batch file on your c: or
D: drive. This same applies for Monarch notes, Just type MON
from the CD-ROM drive, and it also finds the same batch file on
your C: or D: drive. To run Countries of the world, type COW
from the drive your CD-ROM is in. It uses the same DP.BAT, batch
file.

July 1994

Cookbook USA: When installing, just do a minnimum installation.

June 1994

The Correct batch file for installing the Time Magazine Almanac
CD is the following:

E:
CD\TIME\MNU\BIN
TIME92A
C:

Please note, that you must use the letter of the drive your CD-
ROM is installed as, not necessarily the E drive, mine is that
letter, so I have to use e: to tell the batch file where my CD-
ROM drive is. from Pat Ferguson

I called the company, and they were very good and very helpfull,
someone from their Technical Support team game me this batch
file.

It comes up first, with a graphics screen, then goes into the
main menu. Works quite well, although, it can be fine-tuned, if
you like.

July 3, 1994

On Saturday afternoon, I attempted to install Bible Libraries on
CD. It tried to install it on my C drive. there's not room for
it, and it was not telling me what was happening, then when it
rebooted my computer, I realized what happened. I then, read
about the CLIPIT program which is part of the Bible Libraries,
not having time to read any more, I continued my work on the
CDLIST.doc, in WordPerfect, and found that my f11 and f12
function keys didn't work. After trying out 3 new keyboards, and
other things, today, when turning on my computer, and looking at
my AUTOEXEC.BAT file, it had put a CDBIBLE directory on my C
drive, and the CLIPIT was also in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, so we
deleted it, went back into WordPerfect, and my f11 and f12 keys
work just fine. Conclusion: When installing Bible Libraries, we
suggest not installing the CLIPIT file, if one has an option.
I'm sure one could give it a command such as INSTALL D:\CDBIBLE,
or something to that affect.

The Wings Of Fire CD does not work with speech, as it is totally
graphical, and the text is displayed as graphical characters on
the screen. What a disappointment, I sent two of them back to
the company.

7/14/94,

We just received the Compton's Contemporary Encyclopedia on CD.
Here are the specks about it.

It installs on your hard drive and takes up about 3 megs of
space, therefore isn't very big. It will not work with speech,
not even with the VIDRAM turned on or off. Vernon said the text
is displayed in graphical characters on the screen. Someone from
Malta wrote us a letter last week, telling us that Compton's
Products could be used with the VIDRAM statement turned off. If
anyone knows about this, please tell us about it, there was an
article in one of the papers for the Visually Impared, over in
Malta, and our customer mentioned it in his letter to us. When
we get this article, we'll surely pass it on to you all. If you
have this article, refering to the use of Compton's products with
speech, with the VIDRAM program, could you please send the
article to us. Most of their products require Microsoft Windows,
and wouldn't work without a Windows Screen Access Program.
Vernon was not impressed with this encyclopedia, though it is
listed in our catalog, I will not reccommend it for visually
impared persons who are using DOS.
