README.TXT
==========

This file explains how to install DoubleSpace Conversion.

DoubleSpace Conversion includes a single (but important) file: the
DRVSPACE.MR1 file. If you used MS-DOS 6 or 6.2 before installing
MS-DOS 6.22, the DRVSPACE.MR1 file enables MS-DOS to read data stored
in the DoubleSpace compression format even if the DoubleSpace driver
(DBLSPACE.BIN) is not loaded in memory.

DRVSPACE.MR1 makes it possible to:

 * Convert DoubleSpace compressed drives to DriveSpace format.

 * Use DriveSpace to mount and read DoubleSpace compressed drives.

 * Use MS-DOS 6.22 ScanDisk to check and repair DoubleSpace
compressed drives and compressed volume files, even if the
DoubleSpace driver (DBLSPACE.BIN) is not loaded in memory.

 * Use MS-DOS 6.22 Backup for MS-DOS to restore backups created
by MS-DOS 6 or 6.2 Backup for MS-DOS or Windows, even if the
DoubleSpace driver (DBLSPACE.BIN) is not loaded in memory.

Note: DRVSPACE.MR1 works in conjunction with the DBLSPACE.BIN file,
so both files must be located in the same directory.

For more information on using DRVSPACE.MR1, see section 7.28 of the
README.TXT file (located in the directory that contains your MS-DOS files,
and on MS-DOS 6.22 Disk 1).

For information about converting DoubleSpace drives to DriveSpace format,
type HELP DBLSPACE at the command prompt, and then choose the Notes button.

==================================================================
To install DoubleSpace Conversion, carry out the following procedure.

1. Install MS-DOS 6.22, if you haven't already done so.

2. Insert the DoubleSpace Conversion Disk in drive A or B.

3. Make that floppy disk drive your current drive by typing A: or B:
   at the command prompt.

4. If your MS-DOS files are located in the C:\DOS or C:\MSDOS directory,
you can run Setup without specifying a destination directory.
To do this, type SETUP at the command prompt.

If your MS-DOS files are located in a different directory, type
SETUP [drive:][pathname], where [drive:][pathname] indicates the
full pathname of the directory that contains your MS-DOS files.
For example, if your MS-DOS files are located in the directory
D:\UTIL\DOS, you would start Setup by typing the following:

           SETUP D:\UTIL\DOS

Setup then copies the DRVSPACE.MR1 file to the specified directory.
When Setup is complete, you should be able to convert your DoubleSpace
drives to DriveSpace format. For more information, type HELP DBLSPACE
at the command prompt, and then choose the Notes button.

IMPORTANT: Do not delete the DBLSPACE.BIN file. DRVSPACE.MR1 must be used
in conjunction with the DBLSPACE.BIN file. These files must be
           located in the same directory.
