    ҷ
       GENERAL HINTS
    н

1 - Create an ASCII TEXT file of your TRANSCRIPT using
any one of the following programs ( or any other program )
    AdvoCat Barron Maestro Xscribe Wordstar
Cheetah OZ PC Premier Word Perfect
    Cimarron XSCRIBE Spirit Qedit

2 - Be SURE that your ASCII TEXT file contains EMBEDDED
PAGE BREAKS. These PAGE BREAKS tell Court Reporter Pro
where each new page starts, and the old page stops.

3 - Save your ASCII TEXT file onto one of your disk drives.
Example: Save your file to the A: B: C: D: drive, Etc.

4 - Remember the name you gave your ASCII TEXT file.
    Example: SMITH.TXT JONES.001 121092.TXT RICHMON.ASC

5 - Remember the name of the disk drive you saved your
    ASCII TEXT file in.
Remember the name of the subdirectory (if any) where
you saved your ASCII TEXT file.
Ŀ
NOW, to PRINT your ASCII TEXT file using Court Reporter Pro

1 - Start up the Court Reporter Pro program. See page 2 of
the Manual if you need help starting the program.
2 - From the MAIN MENU, select the "FILE TO PRINT" option.
    * Use the ARROW keys and the ENTER key, find the ASCII
TEXT file you just created and saved to a diskette.
( It may be on the A: B: C: D: or E: drive, so remember
      where you put it! )
3 - Once you have found your ASCII TEXT file, highlight it
with the ARROW keys, and press ENTER.
4 - From the MAIN MENU, select the "GO AHEAD AND PRINT"
option. The program will read your ASCII TEXT file, and
after waiting for a keypress or two from you, Print the
    file to your printer.

                      INK JET PRINTERS
                     BUBBLE JET PRINTERS

To make these programs work on an Inkjet or Bubblejet printer
        you need a conversion software.
The one we recommend is called "LaserTwin" by Metro Software.

                       NETWORK USERS

PROBLEM 1: Novell Network doesn't show dots for parent
                directory.
EG: "..\" does not appear in the "SELECT FILE" menu.
    FIX: Before Novell version 3.11
                 FILE------->SHELL.CFG
                After Novell version 3.11
                 FILE------->NET.CFG
EDIT your SHELL.CFG -or- NET.CFG file
                 to contain the following line:
                 SHOW DOTS=ON

PROBLEM 2: Dropped characters in printed output.
FIX: Have your network manager setup the network
printer to pass all printer output transparently.
This forces the print data to arrive at the printer
exactly as it was sent from the program. Networks
normally alter print data, and this program needs
the data to arrive at the printer un-altered.

FIX: EDIT your OMNI CAT "LIT CONFIG".
CHANGE: SHOW DOUBLE SPACE = 0

                (b) Now, you must use a text editor to change the

                    CHANGE: QEMM --- I=A000

                      SPIRIT (Cimarron)

PROBLEM 1: When Printing in Court Reporter Pro, the program
gets stuck with the following message:
                        --->INITIALIZING PRINTER PORT<---
FIX: 1 - PRESS CNTRL-BREAK -or- reboot your computer.
2 - Turn off your computer and printer, and
remove the SPIRIT "PRINTER SECURITY KEY" from the
printer cable. (Located between the back of your
                    computer and your printer cable.)
3 - Turn your computer and printer back on, then
try printing again. These "SECURITY" keys prevent
you from giving copies of SPIRIT to your friends,
so your copy of SPIRIT will only run on ONE computer
at a time. These "SECURITY" keys sometimes fail,
and CRP does not have the codes to "UNLOCK" them
to get data through to the printer.

PROBLEM 2: CRP uses a tiny font on the reduced transcript.
FIX: It is likely that SPIRIT is including BOX DRAW
characters in the ASCII TEXT file.
Use the setup below in your SPIRIT program,
paying special attention to the "Box <0>"
setting. This turns off BOX DRAW characters in
                your ASCII TEXT file.

                       WORD PERFECT 5.1 (OPTIONAL WAY)

This is another way to create an ASCII TEXT file from Word Perfect 5.1.

NOTE: There is a utility program which Word Perfect created
called: "CONVERT" which will convert Word Perfect files
              to other formats.

STEP1: Go to the DOS PROMPT on your computer.
STEP2: Change the DOS PROMPT to your Word Perfect Directory.
Example: Type CD WP -or- CD WP51
        STEP3: Type: CONVERT
STEP4: Now the Word Perfect CONVERT utility will ask for the
name (or pathname) of your original Word Perfect file.
               Example: type:
               SMITH.WP
               C:\WP51\SMITH.WP
               C:\WP51\DOCS\JULIE\SMITH.WP
               A:SMITH.WP
STEP5: Now the Word Perfect CONVERT utility will ask for the
name (or pathname) of the new file. Don't use the same
name, or it will overwrite the original file!
               Example: type:
               SMITH.TXT
               C:\WP51\SMITH.TXT
               C:\CRP\SMITH.TXT
               A:SMITH.TXT
STEP6: From the MENU, CHOOSE 1 - Word Perfect to another format.
STEP7: From the MENU, CHOOSE 7 - ASCII.

The Word Perfect CONVERT utility will read your Word Perfect file
and make a new copy of that file, but in a different format called
an ASCII FILE. An ASCII file is simply a Word Perfect file with
all of the CNTRL, ALT, & Control Codes removed, so that the file
        consists of only "typewriter" characters.

25 if your ASCII is single spaced.)

HINT: Use the "V - VIEW ASCII FILE" inside CRP
to look at your ASCII FILE to determine the
                      correct number for your transcript.
Some court reporters use 24 lines, some use
29 lines, so 25 isn't ALWAYS the correct number.

Recommended XEC 2001 EDIT STYLE SETTINGS for ASCII TEXT files.

From the TRANSLATE menu inside 2001, select EDIT STYLE OPTIONS.
You may create an edit style sheet under a new name, or just
change the settings on the default form, which is what we recommend
doing. You never "lose" the built-in default settings by changing
them. Anytime you want to create a new style sheet, the old settings
    will pop right up again.
