		      C-Note Software by Polygon, Inc.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Introduction

Thank you for requesting an evaluation copy of Cadence Version 2.
This copy will allow you to try Cadence in your environment for a
limited period of time, usually thirty days. After that you will
need to contact Polygon, Inc. @ 314 432-4142 to obtain a permanent
activation key. Until you obtain and enter a permanent activation key
the licensing screen will appear each time Cadconfg is loaded. Enter
the permanent key or press ESC to return to main menu.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Release Notes
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Cadence Version 2.11A 09-Feb-1995
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

 1. Cadence has been modified to allow installation in a directory other
    than SYSTEM.

For example, if you installed the Cadence NLM files into the directory
SYS:\SYSUTIL\CADENCE you would load Cadconfg and/or Cadence by typing:

     LOAD SYS:SYSUTIL\CADENCE\CADCONFG 0 SYS:\SYSUTIL\CADENCE\
     LOAD SYS:SYSUTIL\CADENCE\CADENCE 0 SYS:\SYSUTIL\CADENCE\

i.e. ...CADENCE (space) zero (space) SYS:\SYSUTIL\CADENCE\

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Cadence Version 2.10A 27-Jan-1995
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. A programmable initialization delay has been added to Cadence.
Cadence will compute the Server Drift during this interval
but will not adjust the Tick Increment Value until after this
delay has expired. The default value is 300 seconds (5 minutes).
The value may be changed by editing the Cadence.ini file.

    2. A maximum Drift Limit parameter has also been added. Computed
Drift values above the limit will be ignored. This prevents
a spurious value from skewing the Average Drift Calculation.

    3. Cadence Plus now offers the option of having the Plus Client
server use the local server time as its reference. This allows
NetWare V4 users to let TimeSync.nlm sychronize the server to
the Cadence Plus reference server. The Cadence Plus Client
can then broadcast the local time to workstations on the local
       NetWork.

Alternatively, the Cadence Plus Client server may be configured
to use Chimes from the reference Cadence Plus server as its
       time reference.

The format of the Cadence Chime packet has been changed so it
is essential that you make to upgrade both the Server Cadence
NLMs and all workstation instances of CADENCE.COM.

    4. Please Note: Cadence.nlm creates a temporary data file named
Cadence.reg to communicate with Cadconfg.nlm. Cadence deletes
this file when it is unloaded. If there has been a power outage
or system crash do one of the following before attempting to load
       Cadconfg:

			 A. Load Cadence.nlm

				  or

			 B. Delete Cadence.reg

i.e. Never load Cadconfg.nlm if Cadence.reg exists and
	    Cadence.nlm is NOT loaded.

     5. Cadence Version 2.10A corrects a bug in earlier versions that,
under some circumstances, could cause a DialUp Time Source in
automatic mode to hang the server.

     6. Cadence Version 2.10A also corrects a bug in earlier versions
which use the Adrienne PC-LTC as the Time Reference Source.
The problem was intermittent corruption of the date.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Cadence Version 2.03A
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. Some users have reported problems with the Cadence Installation
program in environments using the VLM shell. If you are using
the VLM shell and experience problems using the Cadence Install
program, try one of the other installation methods described in
       this document.

    2. If you are using a temporary evaluation key to test Cadence in
your environment the licensing screen will appear each time you
load Cadconfg. Simply press the ESC key to return to main menu.

The licensing screen shows how many days are left before the
evaluation key expires, and is our way of encouraging you to
acquire a permanent key. Once a permanent key has been entered
the licensing screen will not appear when loading Cadconfg.

    3. If you are a NetWare Version 4 site please pay careful attention
to the installation and configuration instructions in this
document. In order to adjust the system clock and to cooperate
with the Novell supplied TIMESYNC.NLM module the system must
       be configured properly.

    4. Cadence initially requires two updates from the Time Source
Reference spaced over a period of 16 to 24 hours to accurately
compute your Server's Clock Drift. Cadence now saves the Computed
Server Drift in the Cadence.ini file, so Cadence may begin Automatic
Drift Compensation as soon it is loaded. This feature should be a boon
to sites which regularly shut down their servers.

Although we recommend that you update from the Time Source
Reference at least once a month, if your Server's Drift remains
constant you may elect to select "Fixed Drift Value" on the
Cadconfg Server Setup Screen to "lock in" the Drift value.

The Cadence Version 2 manual is stored on the installation disk
in Laser II printable form as CAD2MAN.PRN.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
 VII. New Features

Cadence Version 2 offers significant improvements in timekeeping
accuracy over previous versions of Cadence. Version 2, in high-
precision mode, is capable of maintaining your Server's system
clock to subsecond accuracy, usually within a few ticks of the
    Time Source Reference.

Cadence 2 may be configured to broadcast high precision "chimes"
on the network which workstations running the optional CADENCE.COM
TSR receive, allowing all users on the Network to have the same
accurate time. These "chimes" are accurate to within a few
milliseconds of the network time, well under one PC clock tick
    (55 milliseconds).

Cadence Version 2 is more fully compatible with NetWare Version 4,
and takes advantage of the NetWare 4 Synchronized Clock Structure
API to minimize SYS$ERR.LOG entries when adjusting the clock.

DialUp Time Service users have a new option for the update time
interval - XX hours, where the user may specify an update interval
of 1 to 23 hours. There is also a new switch to restrict calls to
OffPeak (12 AM to 6 AM) hours, to minimize calling costs.

The configuration screens for Serial Ports and Modems have been
changed to be easier to use and more flexible.

The Cadence intialization data file, Cadence.ini, and the Cadence
activity log file, Cadence.log, are now text files which may be
viewed or edited with standard text editors.

For users who require greater precision than DialUp Services can
provide, Cadence 2 supports several optional third-party hardware
    time sources:

Traconex ITS receives radio broadcasts transmitted by the
U.S. Nation Bureau of Standards (NBS) on five
different frequencies from WWV in Fort Collins,
Colorado and WWVH in Kauai, Hawaii.

Adrienne PC-LTC Synchronizes to the Longitudinal Time Code
signals used in the Television broadcast
                        industry.

Bancomm 620/627 Decodes InterRange Instrumentation Group (IRIG)
time signals. The 627 uses the time signal
broadcast from the 18 global positioning
satellites (GPSs) operated by the U.S
                        government.
