Overview
========

I wrote this program because I was fed up with Netscape's inability
to save inline images when you accessed the File/SaveAs menu item.
It grew from there. CacheMan allows you to manage and view your
Netscape cached files better than any other program around.

If you are like me, and dislike paying BT to access frequently used
documents then this program is for you. Also if you just want to
save the occasional GIF, JPG or WAV file from the cache, then this
program is also for you. CacheMan now includes a built in viewer
And if you want the ability to selectively delete cached entries
(without having to clear the whole cache) then again you will like
this program.

Introducing CacheMan
====================

Netscape maintains a cache directory of recently accessed documents.
It will use these to speed up access. It does this by checking dates
stored in the cache FAT with dates received from the host. If the
cached file is up to date, then it will load from disk, otherwise
Netscape will attempt to download the updated document from the host.

Not all documents are cached. As far as I can figure out, if they
contain inline graphics or references to same then they will be
cached., otherwise Netscape may not cache them.

Netscape does not offer you any facilities to manage the cache - except
for clearing the cache, which is quite drastic. This is where CacheMan
can be of use to you.

CacheMan will allow you to:

  - View a specific entry using configurable viewers

  - Save selected cached entries.

  - Delete selected entries.

  - Localise (Diet) selected entries

It does this by maintaining a seperate Cache in a local directory.
You can also manage this cache although you are only allowed to View and
Delete entries from there. You can flip between the the Netscape cache
and the Local cache at any time by clicking the Show button.

CacheMan has the ability to store files so that their names
match the host file names, no more M0NIQ1EZ.MOZ. It will do
its best to name the stored files to match the host bearing
in mind the restrictions imposed by DOS.

The ZIP Files
===================

CacheMan comes as two ZIP files. CACHEMAN.ZIP and CACHEVBX.ZIP.
If you have Visual Basic 3.00 Pro then you will not need
CACHEVBX.ZIP.

CACHEMAN.ZIP contains the following files:

	CACHEMAN.EXE 	The executable program file.
	CACHEMAN.HLP	This Help file.
	CACHENEW.INI	Default Ini file settings.
	FILE.DLL	DLL used for Images
	WECJLIB.DLL	DLL for JPG Images
	WECJDIB.DLL	DLL for JPG Images
	CACHEMAN.TXT	A text files summarising CacheMan.

CACHEVBX.ZIP contains the following files:

	COMMDLG.VBX	Common Dialog VBX
	GRID.VBX	Grid Control VBX
	THREED.VBX	VBX for 3D Controls.

How to Install CacheMan
=======================
1. Create a directory for CacheMan - best to create it under
the Netscape directory. Then unzip the ZIP files to this
directory.

2. Copy FILE.DLL, WECJLIB.DLL and WECJDIB to your Windows
System directory.

3. You will also need to create a local directory where
localised cached files will be stored. If you wish you may also
create a Save directory but this is not mandatory - but is
recommended.

4. Create a Program Manager item for CacheMan and make sure that
you set the working directory to CacheMan's directory. An initial
Disclaimer screen will be displayed. Read then press the
Continue button.

5. A dialog will next be displayed asking you to fill out the
paths for the various directories used by CacheMan. The Save
directory can be anywhere on your system except the Cache
directory.

6. CacheMan should now be working Ok.

This program requires:
