     The more bits you use, the better the quality of the voice recordings.
Also  the  more HD space you will use. 2-3 bits is usually  sufficient  for
decent quality.

If  the  voice  breaks up or has other noises, try  optimizing  your  disk.
Fragmenting  may  breakup the voice playback.  Another (rare)  cause  is  a
combo IDE/serial port card. It can cause noises.
