10-18-94 Upgrade Modem?

Virtually every component in a Zoom modem is changed, as is board
layout when Rockwell sends us the new ROM for a new modem. Circuitry for a
2400, 2400 v42bis, or a V32(bis) modem have different requirements, for
both power & support components. So there is no upgrade path for any
Zoom/modem to any other level of modem, with the possible exception of the
some V32 modem {non-Turbo} series (it is possible to upgrade a v32 to
v32bis but there is no policy on this)

NOTE:>>> If your modem is less than 30 days old most dealers will take
it back, and you can get a different model.

Some Mfrs do make a hi-end modem, then put low-end ROMs in it, which
then allows an upgrade path. This makes the low-end modem cost more than it
should, and makes the final hi-speed modem cost more too. so Zoom does not
do this. Usually the newer technology is actually cheaper for a whole new
modem, than an upgrade would have been if it were possible. For example,
our 2400 faxmodems are often in the $50 range, and 14.4 faxmodems just over
$100 retail.

We generally do not do trade-ins either, as that is not cost effective
for either the user nor Zoom. But sometimes we do. If you wish to inquire
call (in the North America) 617-423-1072 and ask for David Fortin. If
outside North America, please FAX: ATT:David Fortin 617-423-9231.

(Sorry, at the moment we are doing no trade-ins-)

BTW: Some people ask what do do with their older perfectly functioning
Zoom/faxmodem or modem, not liking to see it gather dust. May I suggest
donating it to a local School or Boys/Girls Club.
