3-1-95 Carrier Loss

The S10 register tells the modem how long it can lose carrier before
disconnecting from the remote device. The default is 14 (S10=14) 1.4
seconds. If you have trouble with what appears may be loss of carrier (for
example with call waiting), try increasing this register. S10=30 or
S10=50. (3 or 5 seconds). If you set S10=255 it will not (at least in
theory) ever hang up by itself on loss of carrier.

If you want the modem to hangup when call-waiting interrupts, then decrease
S10 (if already doesn't hangup). It will take a few seconds for the modem
to actually hangup and you won't hear a RING on your phone until the modem
releases the line. On some v.32bis modems you can try using AT%E3 for fast
hangup..
