If your modem has trouble hanging up, it's usually the software. Make
sure the init string or dial string has AT&C1&D2 in it. (no &D2 for MAC,
use &D0) If you are unsure, put it in the dial prefix.. change ATDT to
AT&C1&D2DT. The &D2 tells the modem to hangup when it loses DTR, the &C1
tells the modem to follow Carrier Detect signal). If the program supports
it set the option to YES for Hangup on Carrier Loss.

The hangup string most common is ~~~+++~~~ATH0 (The ~ are for 1/2 second
pause). The modems need at least 1 second between +++ and ATH0.

On some modems also try %E3 which is for 'fast hangup'
