1. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION...

  A. Check that you have the minimum system requirements [Sect. 2]

  B. Run the INSTALL.EXE program and follow directions.

  C. Ensure the locations of your compression programs are in the
     path [Sect. 3].

  D. Check that the DOS environment is large enough. Run the
ACSETVAR.BAT file from the command line and verify no errors are
     reported [Sect. 4].

  E. (Optional) Edit the ACSETVAR.BAT file and customize the ACDN and
ACUP variable paths. These are for the gamers convenience. ACUP
points to the file directory which is normally used for uploading
files. ACDN points to the file directory where downloads are
     placed [Sect. 5].

2. MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

 286 or better
 VGA 640x480x256
 Mouse
 2.5Meg RAM - 640K Conventional RAM
             - 1.6Meg EMS
 Hard Drive
 PKZIP (R) and PKUNZIP (R) v2.04
 MSDOS (R) 3.1 or higher

 (Optional)
A read/write disk cache will enhance performance.
Modem & Comm software (for transferring game files should you decide
 to enter a game)
A 386DX or better is recommended.

3. COMPRESSOR UTILITY

This software is currently configured to use PKZIP (R) and PKUNZIP (R)
file compression utilities. For proper operation, modify your path to
include the location of these files or copy them into the directory
containing the 2062 T.A.C. program files. You must possess or obtain
your own copies of these files. They are not part of this software.

4. ENVIRONMENT SPACE

This program uses several DOS environment variables. These variables
are set upon entering the program by the batch file ACSETVAR.BAT. If
you operate this program from a menu program for example, it may be
necessary to 'seed' these variables before executing that calling
program. For best results modify your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include the
following command...

CALL C:\AC2062\ACSETVAR.BAT (remember to modify the path if required)

If you experience 'Out of Environment Space' errors, it may be
necessary to increase the size of the DOS environment. In the
CONFIG.SYS file, check that the following or similar command is
included...

 SHELL=C:\COMMAND.COM /E:512 /P

5. MODIFYING ACSETVAR.BAT VARIABLES

For convenience, the variables ACUP and ACDN can be modified to point
to desired upload and download directories normally used in your
communications software. Edit the AC.BAT file to make these changes.

Example:

        SET ACUP=C:\MYCOMM\UPLOADS
        SET ACDN=C:\MYCOMM\RECEIVE

6. ABOUT THE SOFTWARE

The 2062 The Apocalyptic Crusades demonstration and editor software
package are copyrighted and distributed as FREEWARE for review and
demonstration purposes. You may distribute and are encouraged to do
so, as long as all the files are distributed together in the original
form.

7. WHERE TO PLAY AND SOFTWARE SUPPORT

If you like the game system and are interested in joining in a game,
call Scavenger's Loft BBS at (704)524-6577 2400-14400bps 8-N-1 24hrs
7 days a week. Scavenger's Loft BBS is dedicated to supporting this
software and providing the hosting service necessary to play the game.
New game schedules and turn fees or subscription rates will be posted
as well as upgrades, extra demo packs, etc. will also be posted for
download as they become available. Charges apply to host services
only. Downloads are free.

8. HOSTING SERVICE

The hosting process is extensive and time consuming, requiring a
powerful cpu with LARGE amounts of disk space. There are probably only
a few sysops around who have an extra 386 or better cpu to dedicate to
the hosting of the game turns. For this reason, hosting service is
available only at Scavenger's Loft BBS.

10. TURN & RESULT FILES...

If you manually change or recompress these files, they will fail
the security checks and will not be useable. DO NOT attempt to alter
the turn file contents. If the host processes such a file, it will
run as though no turn orders had been given. This was implemented to
deter cheating.
