PRODUCT: WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS
SUBJECT: Sound Related Troubleshooting Guide

TROUBLESHOOTING
1. Does the sound work correctly in another program? Try the Media Player
in Windows 3.1 or look at sound files in Presentations 2.0 or higher.
-- WPDOS 6.0 only supports general midi format files. MT32 type
.MID files will not play in 6.0.
2. Check sound setup under Tools|Sound|Sound Setup. Is it set up correctly?
Make sure the proper sound files are in the Program directory (*.ARS,
TAPI????.COM, VMP.COM). WP will not autoselect sound cards.
3. The SoundBlaster driver can be tried for SoundBlaster compatible cards.
4. If Recording, check on free disk space. High quality recording can take
as much as 1 megabyte every ten to twenty seconds. You should have at
least twice the space free that you intend to record. Anyone running the
/D startup option and redirecting to a RAMDrive is likely to run out of
     space quickly.
5. Try different hardware setups. (Try a microphone input if they are using
     a stereo line in.)
6. Change record options in Tools|Sound|Sound Setup|Record to see if that
     makes any difference.

Note: If the customer is having a problem in the International
version of the product, try having him/her duplicate the problem in
the latest US version of the product. If you can duplicate the
problem in the US version, put the US date as the date of the
product when writing an STR.

REQUIRED FOR AN STR:

1. Sound Card Type, Make, and Model (example: SoundBlaster Pro 16 ASP).
2. Sound file that duplicates the problem and system files.
3. Hardware information (IMPORTANT!) or an MSD Report.
4. Complete Customer information.

SUGGESTED FOLIO KEYWORDS: .MID, .WAV, sound*, play, record*
