TITLE: Using POSTNET Bar Codes
PRODUCT: WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS

POSTNET (Postal Numeric Encoding Techniques) bar codes have been
developed by the Post Office to speed mail sorting, increase
delivery accuracy, and reduce postage costs. The bar codes that
are printed on most bulk mailings you receive are POSTNET bar
codes.

Using WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS, you can now place POSTNET bar
codes anywhere in your documents. They are most commonly placed
above the address on an envelope or above the address in a letter
if you use windowed envelopes.

Creating a POSTNET Bar Code on an Envelope

1 Choose Envelope from the Layout menu, or press Envelope
     (Alt+F12).

2 Choose Envelope Size (1).

3 Select the envelope type you want from the drop-down list.

4 Choose Return Address (4) and type the return address.
Press Exit (F7) when you are finished.

5 Choose Mailing Address (5) and type the mailing address.
Press Exit (F7) when you are finished.

6 Choose POSTNET Bar Code (6), then type the ZIP Code in the
entry field. You can use 5-, 9-, or 11-digit ZIP Codes. If
you are creating Business Reply or Courtesy Reply mail, only
a 9-digit ZIP Code number is needed. Press Enter when you
     are finished.

To more easily proofread the bar code digits you type, you can
include hyphens in a 9- or 11-digit ZIP code. For example, type
84057-8602, or 84057-8602-18.

You can now print the envelope or insert the envelope information
into your document.

Adding a POSTNET Bar Code to a Line of Text
You can add a POSTNET bar code anywhere in a document. This
feature is a time-saver if you are using window envelopes to mail
inserts such as letters, postcards, or billings that need an
address block bar code.

1 Position the cursor where you want the bar code to appear in
     your document.

2 Choose Other from the Layout menu, or press Format
     (Shift+F8) and choose Other (7).

3 Choose Bar Code (8).

4 Type the ZIP Code in the Contents entry field.

5 Press Enter or choose OK.

If you are working in text mode, the bar code command will not
appear on your screen, but it will appear in Reveal Codes. Only
the bar code will be printed at that location. The bar code will
display in graphics mode and page mode.
