 REQUIRES WINDOWS 3.1 or above.

Winmenu is a state-of-the-art menu program for Windows users designed
to facilitate access to all aplications and provide authorized access
for the users. LAN sites that are contemplating to move to the
Windows environment will find Winmenu a must. Winmenu provides easy
and intuitive access without the complications of the Program Manager.
The greatest advantages of Winmenu is its ability to ease the
administration tasks, provides authorized access based on the group
codes the user belongs to, its cost effective and looks great!.

 Enhancements:
 1) A memory CACHE is used now to greatly improve the response time
when changing menu section in Winmenu.
 2) An administration facility program was added to facilitate Winmenu's
    administration tasks.
 3) Winmenu may optionally display network news at startup. Administrators
may setup the news from the administration facility and have it "popup"
at each workstation automatically or allow each user to open the news
    from an icon.
 4) Winmenu supports environment variables (i.e %USER%) to greatly enhance
the flexibility when executing menu programs. For instance, a given
application may require the USERID of the person as part of the
command line or you may need to execute an application with a computed
directory name. Winmenu may scan the workstation environment table
and automatically replace the value in the command line before executing.
 6) Winmenu organizes the menu items in menu sections which can then be
linked to authorized user group codes.
Multiple menu sections may be defined under any given group name and
each user may belong to multiple groups. Note: Group codes are user
defined categories not specific to any network.
 7) Winmenu may optionally allow users to create and change menu items under
a specific menu section. All other network menu sections are restricted
and can not be changed or deleted by the regular users.

Additional features:
 1) The menu display can now show the associated ICON for each program. You
can also change or setup the associated ICON online. Wimenu has the
capability to extract the desired ICON from any file. You may optionally
disable the ICON display feature. See 'changing menu lines' in the user's
    online help (WINMENU.HLP).
 2) Event sound effects. You may optionally disable the sound.
 3) The USERID and SERVERNAME are displayed at the botton of the screen.
 4) Then Multiple Instance Verification (MIV) routine can now be enabled or
disabled online. This notifies the user if the program is already
    running and allows easy recall.
 5) The "blue Ribbon utilities" allow easy access to nine utility programs.
Any of the blue ribbon utilities can also be accessed from the system
menu while WinMenu is minimized for added convinience for the user.
 7) WinMenu can replace the Program Manager for complete control.
 8) Separate online help available for users and the administrator.
 9) Person specific configuration and data may optionally be stored in a
network drive. You may use a network mapped drive for better handling.
Great for diskless workstations too. Read help under the Sections Menu.
 10) An ICON of a "Screen" allow user to invoke their screen saver immediately.
 11) Winmenu does not 'mess' with your WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI nor requires
copying any system files to the Windows directory. All files are
kept in a single directory. KISS concept?.

 * Please, see the online help file ADMIN.HLP for installation and
 administration instructions.

 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: (20 days trial)
 ___________________________________________

Create a network directory to hold the WINMENU files with read only access
  for the general users.

  Example: N:\APPS\WINMENU
Be sure to copy all the WINMENU files to this directory.

     WINMENU.EXE - Windows menu program / executable
     WINMENU.TXT - This document.
     WINMENU.HLP - User's Online help
     ADMIN.EXE - Administration facility / executable (optional)
     ADMIN.HLP - Administration Online help
     WINMNEWS.EXE - News dispatcher program.
ORDER.TXT - How to register online or by mail.
.WAV files - Sound effects for users with sound cards or the
                       speaker.drv. These files are optional.
(Contact Winmenu's author to obtain a copy)

The following files are also required and must exist in your Windows system
directory (\WINDOWS\SYSTEM). These files are part of the Microsoft Windows
system files and should already exist in your current Windows system
 directory:

     COMMDLG.DLL
     SHELL.DLL
     TOOLHELP.DLL
     MMSYSTEM.DLL

NOte: Novell users may optionally add the file NWNETAPI.DLL in the WInmenu
directory and gain a better performance with Winmenu. This file can be
obtained for free from Novell. In Compuserve, GO NOVFILES download WINUPx.zip
file. NWNETAPI.DLL must have a date stamp no early than 1993.

Winmenu.exe may now be executed but you should run the administration
facility program to change the default configuration and create the
menu items. Run Windows and execute ADMIN.EXE.

Please, see ADMIN.HLP for installation and administration instructions.

  HOW TO RUN WINMENU:

  From the DOS prompt:

   1) Be sure you are in the WINMENU directory and type WIN WINMENU
      then press ENTER.

    To replace program manager:
Make a backup of the file SYSTEM.INI found on your \WINDOWS directory.
Use your favorite text editor to load the file SYSTEM.INI and modify
the line that start with SHELL= to look like this:

           SHELL=N:\APPS\WINMENU\WINMENU.EXE

Save the file!. The next time you run Windows, WINMENU will be
displayed instead of the Program Manager. If you ever decide to
restore the Program Manager, just modify the SHELL= line to look
like SHELL=PROGMAN.EXE and save it. Or restore SYSTEM.INI with
    your backup copy.

NOTE: Do not run winmenu.exe from the LOAD= or RUN= command in
your WIN.INI file. Use the STARTUP group window instead.
