AUTOMATIC FONT CHANGES (AFCs)
The 11/30/92 release of WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows did not
generate AFCs for bold and italic attributes of TrueType fonts.
This could cause incorrect character spacing for bold and/or
italic TrueType fonts when the document printed. You can now
choose whether AFCs are automatically generated for TrueType
fonts by adding the following section and line to the WPC.INI or
WPC_NET.INI:

      [WIN2WRS]
      TTAFC=Yes/No  (i.e., TTAFC=Yes)

If this line is not added, the default is TTAFC=Yes. When AFCs
are generated for bold/italic attributes, (TTAFC=Yes or no entry)
and there are a large number of TrueType fonts installed, it is
possible the typeface may switch to a completely different
typeface when using a bold and/or italic attribute. If you did
not experience problems with the 11/30/92 release of WordPerfect
5.2 for Windows, you may want to add the entry TTAFC=No.

DISPLAY
The QVision 7.23A graphics driver which ships with some new
Compaq computers may cause display problems in Print Preview and
Reveal Codes. Upgrading to the QVision 7.25A graphics driver may
correct many of these problems. Contact Compaq for more
information.

DRAG AND DROP
The Drag and Drop feature will not work in Draft mode.

FILE MANAGER
You can use the Windows 3.1 File Manager to open and print
WordPerfect documents. To do this you will need to make changes
using the Windows REGEDIT (Registration Info Editor) and WINFILE
(File Manager) programs.

1 From the Program Manager, select File, Run, type REGEDIT in
the Command Line text box, then click OK. The Registration
Info Editor lists the Registered File Types.

2 If the File Type "WP 5.x Document" appears, select it and
press Enter. If it is not on the list, choose Edit, Add
File Type, type WP5Doc in the Identifier text box, then
type WP 5.x Document in the File Type text box.

3 Select Open in the Action group box and do the following:

      a. Enter the full path of the WPWIN.EXE file in the
Command text box. For example, type
            C:\WPWIN\WPWIN.EXE.

      b. Make sure the Uses DDE checkbox is selected.

      c. Enter FileOpen("%1";0) AppActivate() in the DDE
            Message text box.

      d. Enter FileOpen("%1";0) AppActivate() in the DDE
            Application Not Running text box.

      e. Enter WordPerfect in the Application text box.

      f. Enter Commands in the Topic text box.

4 Change the Action group box selection to Print and do the
      following:

      a. Enter the full path of the WPWIN.EXE file in the
Command text box. For example, type
            C:\WPWIN\WPWIN.EXE.

      b. Make sure the Uses DDE checkbox is selected.

      c.    Enter FileOpen("%1";0) PrintFull() CloseNoSave(1) in
            the DDE Message text box.

      d.    Enter FileOpen("%1";0) PrintFull() CloseNoSave(1)
AppClose() in the DDE Application Not Running text
            box.

      e. Enter WordPerfect in the Application text box

      f. Enter Commands in the Topic text box.

5 Select OK to save the changes for this File Type.

6 Choose File, then Exit to return to the Program Manager.

7 Start the Windows File Manager (often found in the Main
      program group).

8 Choose File, then Associate and do the following:

      a. Enter the extension you commonly give your
WordPerfect documents in the Set Files with Extension
text box. For example, type WP or DOC.

      b. Enter WP 5.x Document in the Associate With text box
either by typing it or selecting it from the list.

(You may want to repeat the instructions given in step 8 to
identify other extensions [such as WCM, WPWin macro files] as
WordPerfect documents too.)

Once these changes have been made, drag-and-drop printing can be
done when Print Manager is minimized or in a maximized view. To
print a file using this method, highlight the file, drag the file
from File Manager and drop it onto a minimized/maximized Print
Manager. Note: The option "Use Print Manager" must be checked
in the Printers dialog box (usually found by selecting Main,
Control Panel, then Printers).

Now, whenever you instruct the File Manager to open or print a
file, it will use the file's extension to find the associated
file type. It will then use the DDE commands for that file type
to open or print the file. If the application is not already
running, it will use the command line for the file type to start
the application, and then use the DDE commands for opening
or printing the file.

FILE MASKING
The File Mask feature lets you specify the types of documents
that can be accessed, as well as allowing you to specify an
extension that will automatically be assigned each time you save
a document.

To use the File Mask feature, you must manually create the
following in your WPC.INI file:

      [File Masks]
WPWPDocuments= (set this to any one or any combination of
the following specifications based on your needs)
      WPWPDocuments=*.DOC

This means that when you bring up the Open, Retrieve, or Save As
dialog box, the file template (the list of files displayed in the
list box) will display only files ending with .DOC. If, during
Open or Retrieve, you type SAMPLE for your filename, WordPerfect
will try to open or retrieve SAMPLE.DOC. If such a document does
not exist, an error message will inform you that the file
cannot be found.

With the setting above, the .DOC extension requirement can be
overridden by using a period when trying to open a document that
does not have an extension that correlates to your setting. For
example, if you type SAMPLE. when trying to retrieve a document,
WordPerfect will just search for SAMPLE. The three character
extension can be anything you like (perhaps, your initials).
Wildcard characters can also be used in combination with letters
in the extension (.D??). A letter may also be used in
combination with the asterisk prior to the extension to further
limit the parameters of the documents that will be available
(S*.DOC).

ForceOnOpen and ForceOnSave are File Masking options documented
in the Open section of the WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows reference
manual; however, these options are no longer available.

FONT
Windows 3.1 has added characters to the ANSI character set
(characters 130 through 159, with the exception of 141-144,
157-158). These characters are supported in WordPerfect for
Windows. You can insert them into a document by activating Num
Lock, holding down Alt, typing 0 (zero), then typing
the corresponding number on the number pad. These characters
will normally display and print. However, if you are
running Windows 3.1 and you have difficulties displaying or
printing these characters, change the Windows code page to 1004.
See Code Pages in README.SHP for information on changing Windows
code pages.

If you are running Windows 3.0 and you are using fonts that
contain these characters, you may find that the characters are
printed graphically. To have the characters print normally, you
can change the Windows code page to 1252 (see Code Pages in
README.SHP).

GRAMMATIK
If you grammar check a document that is currently active in
WordPerfect 5.2 you must close Grammatik instead of minimizing it
before continuing to edit the document in WordPerfect 5.2 for
Windows.

KEYBOARD LAYOUT
You cannot edit the CUA keyboard that is assigned to the "Default
CUA" button in Keyboard under the Preferences menu. Any new
keyboard that is created has the same settings as the currently
selected keyboard.

MAIL ENABLE
When you have a password-protected mail system, you must first
open the mail program in order to use the Mail Enable feature
within WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows. If you do not have your mail
program password-protected, you can activate your mail system
directly from within WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows.

When you select the menu option you installed for Mail Enable,
WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows prompts you to save a modified file.
Choose OK to attach the file to the mail system's Message Box.
The current documentation states that your active WordPerfect 5.2
for Windows document is attached automatically to your mail
system's Message Box.

When using Windows 3.0 and the WordPerfect Mail System (MLWin),
you must select the Mail Enable menu option twice for the MLWin
message box to appear. This is a limitation of Windows 3.0. In
Windows 3.1 it is not necessary to select the Mail Enable option
twice.

OPEN DIALOG BOX
You may now select multiple filenames for use with the Delete,
Copy, and Move operations on the Options button in the Open
dialog box. To select multiple files, use one of the following
file selection methods:

      * You may select all files by pressing Ctrl+/ while
focus is in the files list.

      * To select noncontiguous files, drag across items you
want to select, then release the mouse button. Skip
the items you don't want. Press and hold down Ctrl,
then drag across other desired items. To accomplish
the same using the keyboard, press Shift+F8 to
activate Select, then press the space bar to select
            or de-select each desired file.

      * You may select contiguous files either by dragging
with the mouse or by pressing Shift+F8 to activate
Select, then holding the Shift key while using arrow
            keys to select.

PASTE SPECIAL
Use Paste Special to copy the Clipboard contents in the format
you choose.

To use Paste Special,

1 After copying or cutting data to the Clipboard, place the
insertion point where you want to paste the Clipboard
      contents.

2 Choose Paste Special from the Edit menu.

3 Select a data type.

4 Choose Paste to copy the Clipboard contents into your
      document.

      or

Choose Paste Link to copy the Clipboard contents into your
document and create a link between the data source and
      your document.

PRINTER COMMANDS
The Printer Command option is only available with WordPerfect
printer drivers. If you are using a Windows printer driver, this
option will not be selectable.

PRINTER TO SCREEN FONT MATCHING
You may specify the Windows screen font that is to be used for a
specific printer font in WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows. This is
helpful if the screen font displayed in your WordPerfect 5.2 for
Windows document window varies too much in appearance and/or
width from the font on the printed page.

NOTE: These changes will not affect the appearance of your
printed document. These changes will also not affect WordPerfect
File Manager or Mail for Windows.

To list the font substitutions you want to make,

1 List the printer fonts you have available by selecting Font
from the Font menu in WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows. Scroll
through the list of fonts, writing down the name of each
font that does not display correctly. Include only the
characters up to but not including the first left
parenthesis. For example, Univers (Scalable) would become
Univers. If the font name does not include anything in
parentheses, use the full font name, including any size
      information.

2 Once you have listed all the printer fonts that do not
display correctly, you need to choose a screen font for
each. With a Windows printer driver selected, the font
list in step one can be used to choose screen fonts. If
you are using a WordPerfect printer driver, select a
Windows printer driver by choosing Select Printer from the
File menu. Click on the radio button for Windows, then
choose Select. Include only the characters up to but not
including the first left parenthesis. For example, Arial
      (TT) (Bold) would become Arial.

To modify the WPC.INI file (or WPC_NET.INI file if WordPerfect
5.2 for Windows is running on a network),

1 Using Windows Notepad, DOS 5.0 Editor, or any other DOS
text editor, open the WPC.INI file located in your Windows
      directory.

2 Find the section titled [Printer-Screen Font Subst]. There
may be some default printer font/screen font pairs listed.
Directly beneath the last item under this heading, list
each printer font/screen font pair you wish to add in this
format: <printer font>=<screen font>. Below is an example
of what you might enter. Depending on your installed
      fonts, your list may differ.

            Univers=Arial
            Univers Bold=Arial
            Courier 10cpi=Courier New
            Courier 12cpi=Courier New

3 Save the WPC.INI file, and restart WordPerfect 5.2 for
      Windows.

NOTE: If you are running WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows on a
network, these changes can be made to the WPC_NET.INI file;
however, if identical printer font entries are found in a user's
WPC.INI file, the screen font entries will override the entries
in the WPC_NET.INI. Any unique printer font entries in WPC.INI
will used in addition to the list from WPC_NET.INI.

THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE

FaceLift for Windows by Bitstream
If you are using FaceLift for Windows, and have selected a
Windows printer driver in WordPerfect for Windows, and are using
the Line Draw feature in WordPerfect for Windows, characters in
the Line Draw dialog box will display incorrectly. These line
draw characters also display incorrectly when you use Draft Mode
to edit your document.  This is a display problem only;
the characters will print correctly.

To correct the display problem,

1 Insert the following line into the WIN.INI file, in the
[Typefaces] section, immediately below the "Active=" line:

            NoSubstVectFonts=1

2 Exit Windows.

3 Delete the FaceLift file CACHEDMP.CCH from the Windows
      directory (if the file exists).

4 Restart Windows.

Close-Up by Norton-Lambert
If you are using Close-Up with Windows applications and you
receive an Application Error when you attempt to start
WordPerfect for Windows, you will need an updated keyboard driver
for Close-Up. This driver can be downloaded by modem from the
WordPerfect Support Bulletin Board Service.

To install the new driver,

1 Call the Bulletin Board Service at (801) 225-4414. The
system operates at 2400 bps, no parity, 8 data bits, and 1
stop bit. Follow the prompts for registration on the
      system.

2 Download the file CUPKEYBD.DRV.

3 Copy CUPKEYBD.DRV to your \Windows\System directory.

This file can also be obtained directly from Norton-Lambert.

WORDPERFECT PRINTER DRIVERS & GRAPHICS PRINTING
If graphics print too dark when using a WordPerfect printer
driver, you can add the following entry to the WPWP.INI file:

      [Settings]
      WinDither=1

This setting causes the default Windows printer to dither the
graphic before the WordPerfect printer driver processes it. This
option normally causes graphics to print lighter.

WINDOWS DESKJET PRINTER DRIVERS & ENVELOPES
The following changes need to be made in the Paper Size dialog
box if you are printing with a Windows printer driver on any of
the following printers: HP Deskjet, Deskjet Plus, HP Deskjet
500, or HP Deskjet 500c.

1 Make sure the appropriate Windows printer driver is
      selected.

2 Click on Layout, Page, Paper Size, highlight the Envelope
Paper Type, then click on Edit.

3 Select the Wide Form paper orientation check box and be
sure the Rotated font paper orientation check box is
      unselected.

4 Change the paper location to Envelope Manual Feed. When
loading the envelope using a Windows printer driver, place
the envelope face down in the printer and push it under the
rollers. Do not press the envelope button(s) on the
printer's control panel to preload the envelope.

NOTE: If you are using an HP Deskjet Series (version 3.0) Windows
printer driver, you will not have an Envelope Manual Feed option
in the Location pop-up menu. Therefore, you will need to choose
either Default or In Tray. Printing an envelope which has been
appended to a document is not supported with an HP Deskjet Series
(version 3.0) Windows printer driver.

After these changes have been made, you can either select the
envelope paper type manually or use the macro ENVELOPE.WCM to
print envelopes.

WINDOWS PRINTER DRIVERS
You can redirect *.WRS files to a path other than the path
specified in Location of Files by adding the following section
and entry to the WPC.INI (or the WPC_NET.INI for network users).

      [WIN2WRS]
      WRSPath=Path (e.g., WRSPath=C:\WRSFILES)

If you are on a network and the message "Updating printer
information" is generated frequently, the network administrator
my consider adding this entry to the WPC_NET.INI and redirecting
the *.WRS files to a local drive. This will prevent frequent
updating caused by users sharing the same network printer files
directory. The *.WRS files can be redirected to a users
network directory if Windows is being run locally and the user
adds the WRS Path entry in a personal WPC.INI. (If the WPC.INI
file is found it is read instead of WPC_NET.INI.) This section
can also be used to redirect *.WRS to a common network drive and
directory if you are using a setup in which disk drives are not
provided for workstation terminals. This change may cause the
"Updating Printer Information" message to be generated more often
especially if users have read/write rights to *.WRS files and add
and/or delete fonts or paper sizes. A network administrator may
be able to prevent this by predefining paper sizes and fonts,
then giving users read-only rights to the *.WRS files.

WINDOWS PRINTER DRIVERS
If you upgraded from WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows and use a
Windows printer driver in WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows, you need
to update it in order to access the printer-defined forms. To do
this, activate WordPerfect 5.2 for Windows, choose Select Printer
from the File menu, then choose Update. This operation only
updates printer-defined forms; any user-defined forms remain
intact.
