Even if you're familiar with LANtastic Power Suite and Windows 95, it's very 
important to follow all the special installation and setup steps in this file 
- not just the on-screen instructions.

LANtastic Operability with Windows 95
=====================================
LANtastic V6.0 and LANtastic Power Suite have been tested and documented 
for operation with some limitations on systems running in the Windows 95
environment.  Artisoft has also worked closely with its customers and
resellers, and has determined that LANtastic will operate on Windows 95
systems under most circumstances.  We're aware of several 
configuration-dependent compatibility issues involved with running in the 
Windows 95 environment (such as incompatibilities encountered with certain 
hardware configurations, print drivers, disk drivers, and intermittent 
memory errors when printing graphics or large fonts). These are largely due 
to LANtastic running on Windows 95 in DOS emulation mode.

Free LANtastic 32-bit Client for Windows 95 Software
----------------------------------------------------
In early- to mid-October, Artisoft will provide a thoroughly tested and 
documented LANtastic 32-bit Client for Windows 95, which directly addresses 
compatibility issues.  This software will be available to all LANtastic,
LANtastic Power Suite and Simply LANtastic customers at no charge from our
World Wide Web server, CompuServe forum, BBS or FTP server.  The LANtastic
32-bit Client for Windows 95 will provide users who are adding Windows 95
platforms to their LANtastic networks or who are migrating existing
LANtastic workstations to Windows 95 with complete, 32-bit client access
to all resources on their LANtastic network.

At this time, Simply LANtastic, Home Network and LANtastic V5.0  aren't
supported on platforms running Windows 95. However, Windows 95 platforms
will be able to access these LANtastic versions' network resources using
the LANtastic 32-bit Client for Windows 95 software.

New LANtastic for Windows 95 Version
====================================
In early 1996, Artisoft will release a version of LANtastic that optimizes 
Windows 95 features and includes full 32-bit client and server LANtastic 
networking.  LANtastic continues to offer its hallmark ease of use, 
excellent security and scalability. It also gives you a drag-and-drop user 
interface, integration with DOS, Windows, OS/2 and Windows 95 platforms, as 
well as easy connectivity to existing Microsoft and Novell networks.

Special Offer
-------------
When LANtastic for Windows 95 is released, Artisoft will offer a special 
promotion for customers who have recently purchased LANtastic V6.0 or 
LANtastic Power Suite.  If you buy LANtastic V6.0 or LANtastic Power Suite 
between now and the time of the formal LANtastic for Windows 95 product 
announcement, you'll receive a substantial discount on conversions to new 
LANtastic for Windows 95 capabilities.  Pricing for these upgrades will be 
available within 60 days of product availability.

To run LANtastic or LANtastic Power Suite with Windows 95, you'll need a 
386DX33 with 8MB RAM minimum for workstations and a 486DX33 with 16MB RAM 
minimum for servers.  NodeRunner network adapter cards are recommended with 
LANtastic and Power Suite on Windows 95 platforms. 

USING THIS FILE
===============
This file contains important information about running LANtastic (R) Power 
Suite and Microsoft (R) Windows (R) 95 on the same computer.   
 
The first two sections are intended for all LANtastic Power Suite users. 
You'll need to read through these sections before you begin installing 
LANtastic Power Suite or Windows 95:  
 
* In the first section, you'll find general guidelines and explanations of 
  some of the limitations of running LANtastic Power Suite with Windows 95.  

* In the second section, you'll find information about the downloadable files 
  you need to run LANtastic Power Suite with Windows 95. These files
  are available on Artisoft's on-line support services. If you haven't 
  already downloaded these files, you'll save time later if you do so before 
  you begin installing your software.
  
The next two sections contain setup instructions for the following scenarios:  
 
* Installing LANtastic Power Suite on a computer that's already running 
  Windows 95.  

* Installing Windows 95 on a computer that's already running LANtastic 
  Power Suite. If the computer is DOS-only, refer to the instructions in the 
  section "Installing Windows 95 on a LANtastic DOS-only Computer."

The final sections provide problem-solving information: 

* If you have problems running LANtastic Power Suite and Windows 95, refer 
  first to the "Troubleshooting" section.

* If the problems persist after you've worked through the "Troubleshooting" 
  section, refer to the final section of this file, "Calling Technical 
  Support."

RUNNING LANTASTIC POWER SUITE WITH WINDOWS 95
=============================================
This section provides general guidelines and other information about installing
and using LANtastic Power Suite with Windows 95. To ensure your network setup
will be able to meet all your needs, it's best to consider these guidelines 
before you begin installing software. 

NOTE:  Updated guidelines are available on Artisoft's on-line support services.
       For more information, refer to the section "Downloading the files
       you need" later in this file.

Installation issues
-------------------
* The LANtastic network operating system won't function correctly with the 
  Windows 95 networking components. This means that in order to use LANtastic, 
  you'll have to disable Windows 95 networking, as described in the setup 
  instructions later in this file.   

* LANtastic's SMB- or NCP-support features won't function correctly under 
  Windows 95. This means: 

  * If you're installing LANtastic Power Suite on a computer that's already 
    running Windows 95, you must not select the SMB or NCP features.   

  * If you're installing Windows 95 on a computer that's already running 
    LANtastic Power Suite with SMB- or NCP-support enabled, you must 
    reinstall LANtastic Power Suite and disable these features before running 
    the Windows 95 Setup program. 

  * Because you can't enable SMB or NCP support, you won't be able to 
    select LANtastic's Hewlett-Packard(R) JetDirect(TM) printer support 
    feature.  

* If your Windows 95 computer has a modem attached, you can use Cheyenne's 
  BitWare fax and communications software to use that (local) modem. You can
  also use the Cheyenne BitShare software to use shared modems on computers
  running LANtastic under Windows and DOS. However, you can't use Cheyenne's
  BitShare software to set up a modem on a Windows 95 computer to be
  shared by other computers on the network. This means:

  * If you're installing LANtastic Power Suite on a computer that's already 
    running Windows 95, you must not select the Share this modem with 
    other computers... option at the Cheyenne Fax & Communications Setup 
    screen.   

  * If you want to install Windows 95 on a computer that's already running 
    LANtastic Power Suite and is using BitShare to share a modem on the 
    network, you'll have to reinstall LANtastic Power Suite and disable 
    BitShare. 

Creating and canceling network connections
------------------------------------------
* Always use LANtastic's Net program to create or cancel network connections 
  on a Windows 95 computer. Don't use the Windows 95 Explorer.  

* When you use the Net program to create or cancel connections, the changes 
  you make won't appear under Windows 95 Explorer's All Folders list until 
  you open the View menu and select the Refresh option. 

Sharing CD-ROM drives
---------------------
* On a Windows 95 computer, when you have a CD-ROM drive that's using Windows 
  95's CDFS driver software, the CD-ROM drive won't appear in LANtastic Net's 
  Drive Connections screen. (The connection will appear under Windows 95 
  Explorer.) You'll need to remember not to use the drive letter that's 
  connected to the CD-ROM drive to make any other drive connections.  

* If you want to share a CD-ROM drive on your Windows 95 computer across the 
  network and you're using Windows 95's CDFS driver software, you must make 
  sure DOS is specified as the drive type on the LANtastic Network Manager 
  Resource Parameters screen. If you're using another CD-ROM driver, such as 
  MSCDEX.EXE, make sure CD-ROM is specified as the drive type.  

Sharing files on the network 
---------------------------- 
* Windows 95 supports the use of long filenames. Using LANtastic, you'll be 
  able to open, create, copy and execute these files, which will appear in 
  a truncated "8.3" DOS format.   

* A LANtastic Power Suite server can share a maximum of 5,100 files under 
  Windows 95.   

* On a LANtastic Power Suite workstation, each of your 32-bit Windows 95 
  applications will, by default, be able to open only 15 files across the 
  network. If you need to open more than 15 files in one application, see
  the section titled "Using MOREFILE.EXE" later in this file.

Using shared printers  
---------------------
The first time you want to print across the network from a Windows 95 
workstation to a shared printer, you must complete the Add Printer process 
for a network printer, as described in your Windows 95 documentation. 

LANtastic pop-up messages 
------------------------- 
LANtastic pop-up messages - for example, a warning of a server that's going 
to shut down - won't appear under Windows 95.   

Shutting down Windows 95 or SERVER
----------------------------------
Because LANtastic pop-up messages won't appear under Windows 95, make sure 
you check that nobody is using any files on your computer BEFORE you shut 
down Windows 95 or the LANtastic SERVER program.
 

DOWNLOADING THE FILES YOU NEED 
==============================
Whether you're planning to install LANtastic Power Suite on a Windows 95 
computer or vice versa, you need to download WIN95PS.EXE from one of
Artisoft's on-line support services. This self-extracting file contains
five files - the latest version of this text file, LANTASTI.INF,
MOREFILE.EXE, LANTNET.DRV, and LANT6X.TXT.   To use this file, copy it to 
your LANtastic installation directory (usually C:\LANTASTI). At the DOS 
prompt, at the LANtastic installation directory, type WIN95PS.EXE. Then 
continue with the instructions in this file.

The LANTASTI.INF file contains settings that Windows 95 needs to work with 
LANtastic. You'll need this file when you're installing LANtastic Power 
Suite on a Windows 95 computer. You may need this file if you're installing 
Windows 95 on a LANtastic Power Suite computer. If you'll be installing
software at a number of computers, you may find it more convenient if you
copy the LANTASTI.INF file to a floppy disk.

MOREFILE.EXE is a terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) program that increases 
the number of files on a LANtastic network server that can be opened by a
workstation's 32-bit Windows 95 applications across the network. For
information about using MOREFILE.EXE, refer to the section titled
"Using MOREFILE.EXE" later in this file. Be sure you use MOREFILE.EXE only
if you need to open more than 15 files in any one application.

LANTNET.DRV is a replacement LANtastic driver for Windows that resolves a 
'Spool32' error that can occur in certain printing instances.  Please refer 
to its associated text file, LANT6X.TXT, for detailed installation instructions.

If you haven't already done so, it's recommended that you download WIN95PS.EXE
before you begin to install your new LANtastic Power Suite or Windows 95
software. This file is available on the following services:

   * The Arti-Facts (SM) electronic bulletin board service (BBS)
   * Artisoft's CompuServe (R) forum
   * Artisoft's Anonymous FTP Server on the Internet
     
For information about using these services, refer to your LANtastic manuals 
or to the Directory of Technical Support Services that came in your LANtastic 
Power Suite package.

NOTE:  You may want to check for updated information about running
       LANtastic Power Suite with Windows 95. You can do this through
       the Artisoft Home Page on the World Wide Web and via Artisoft's
       FaxReturn(SM) electronic facsimile system (download document
       number 457).

INSTALLING LANTASTIC POWER SUITE ON A WINDOWS 95 COMPUTER
=========================================================
This section explains how to install LANtastic Power Suite on a computer 
that's already running Windows 95. After you've completed the setup steps 
here, you can use LANtastic Power Suite in much the same way you would on a 
computer running Windows or Windows for Workgroups. However, there will be 
some limitations. If you haven't already done so, refer to the section 
"Running LANtastic Power Suite with Windows 95" earlier in this file for 
detailed information before you begin installing your software.  

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Be sure to follow all of the setup instructions in this section carefully. 
Don't use the on-screen instructions. To keep track of your progress, you may 
want to check off each step as you complete it.  
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

WARNING!  When you're running the LANtastic Power Suite Setup program and the 
          Installation Complete screen appears, DO NOT RESTART THE COMPUTER.
          Instead follow the setup instructions in this section.

1. If you haven't already done so, download the WIN95PS.EXE file from one of
   Artisoft's on-line support services (see the previous section in this file,
   "Downloading the files you need").  

2. If you're installing LANtastic Power Suite from the CD-ROM, load it into 
   the computer's CD-ROM drive. If you're installing from the diskettes, 
   insert a working copy of the first diskette into one of the computer's 
   floppy drives.   

3. At the Windows 95 desktop, choose the Start button in the taskbar and 
   select Run.   

4. In the Run window, type D:\SETUP.EXE where D: is the drive where you 
   placed the CD-ROM or the first diskette. Then choose OK. Note that you 
   must type the .EXE extension.  

5. You can follow the installation instructions in your LANtastic Power Suite 
   documentation, selecting any options you require WITH THE FOLLOWING
   EXCEPTIONS:  

   * If you selected Custom Install, at the Universal Client Options screen 
     don't select SMB support or NCP support. These features will not work 
     under Windows 95. (This means you won't be able to select the 
     Hewlett-Packard JetDirect printer support feature at the LANtastic 
     Options screen.)  

   * If you're installing the Cheyenne fax and communications products, don't 
     select the Share this modem with other computers option at the 
     Cheyenne Fax & Communications Setup screen. The modem-sharing software 
     doesn't work correctly under Windows 95.   

   *  After you've worked through the Setup screens, the file-copying process 
      may take a few minutes.  

   *  When you're installing cc:Mail, Lotus Organizer, or the Cheyenne fax and 
      communications products, the computer appears to lock up when Setup 
      is configuring these products. When this occurs, select the IMPORT icon 
      in the Windows 95 taskbar. A DOS box appears, then closes. If the icon 
      appears again, select it and repeat this process until the icon 
      disappears. Then click on the title bar of the LANtastic Power Suite 
      Setup screen to make it the active window. The installation will 
      continue normally.   

    * At the Installation Complete screen, select the Return to Windows button 
      and close the LANtastic window. DO NOT RESTART THE COMPUTER.   
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: If you do restart the computer at the Installation Complete screen,
      complete the following steps:

    * If a Windows Networking screen appears warning that your network 
      adapter isn't working properly, ignore it. Simply choose OK. When a 
      screen appears prompting you to supply a user name and password, you can 
      type anything in these fields (LANtastic doesn't use this information). 
      Then choose OK again. A LANtastic Net screen appears. 

    * At the LANtastic Net screen, warning that the LANtastic network driver 
      is not currently running, simply choose OK to return to the Windows 95 
      desktop. Then continue with step 7.   
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. At the Windows 95 desktop, choose the Start button and select Settings, 
   then Control Panel. Locate and double-click on the Network icon to bring 
   up the Network window.  

7. In the network components field, under the Configuration tab, highlight the 
   first entry and choose the Remove button to clear it from the field. Repeat 
   this process until all entries are cleared.   

8. When the network components field is empty, choose the Add button. The 
   Select Network Component Type window appears.  

9.In the main field, select Client, then choose the Add button. The Select 
   Network Client window appears.  

10.Choose the Have Disk button, then specify the path to the 
   LANTASTI.INF file (see the section "Downloading the files you need"
   earlier in this file). To do this, complete one of the following
   steps:  

   * If you copied the file to a floppy diskette, insert the diskette into one 
     of the computer's floppy drives, then type A:\ where A: is the drive 
     where you placed the diskette. Then choose OK.   

   * If you copied the file to the computer's hard drive, type in the
     full path to the LANTASTI.INF file then choose OK.

11.The Select Network Client window appears, showing Artisoft LANtastic 
   (version 6.0 and above). Choose OK. The Network window appears again, 
   showing that Artisoft LANtastic is the only network component installed. 
   Choose OK again.   

12.If a message screen appears warning that you must provide computer 
   and workgroup names to identify the computer on the network, choose OK. 
   The Network window reappears. Select the Identification tab and type in a 
   computer name, workgroup name and computer description. You can type 
   anything in these fields. (LANtastic doesn't use this information.) Then 
   choose OK.   

13.After a Copying Files window appears, a message screen appears 
   prompting you to insert the Artisoft LANtastic Windows driver disk. You 
   can ignore this message. Simply choose OK. Another Copying Files window 
   appears.  

14.The second Copying files window warns that the LANTASTI.386 file could 
   not be found. LANTASTI.386 is in the directory where you installed 
   LANtastic (by default, C:\LANTASTI). In the Copy files from field, specify 
   the directory where the LANtastic files were installed, then choose OK.   

15.If you're prompted to insert your Windows 95 CD-ROM or one of your 
   Windows 95 diskettes, do so and choose OK to return to a Copying Files 
   window. Then complete one of the following steps:   

   * If you inserted the Windows 95 CD-ROM, type D:\WIN95 where D: is the 
     drive where you placed the CD-ROM. Then choose OK.   

   * If you inserted a Windows 95 diskette, type A:\ where A: is the drive 
     where you placed the diskette. Then choose OK.

16.When the System Settings Change dialog box appears, choose Yes to restart 
   the computer. If you placed a diskette in the computer's floppy drive in 
   step 16, remember to remove it before you restart the computer.   

When the Windows 95 desktop reappears, you'll see LANtastic Net minimized in 
the taskbar.  

NOTE:  If LANtastic Net doesn't appear in the taskbar, or the network doesn't 
       function correctly, refer to the "Troubleshooting" section later in
       this file.

Installing Windows 95 on a LANtastic DOS-only computer
======================================================
The instructions for installing Windows 95 on a computer that's already 
running LANtastic Power Suite assume the computer is already running Windows 
3.X or Windows for Workgroups. If the computer is DOS-only: 

1. Make sure no LANtastic programs are running by using the /REMOVE switch. 
   For example, type SERVER  /REMOVE <Enter> to make sure the SERVER program 
   isn't running.  

2. Do the same to remove REDIR, AILANBIO (if you're using it), and your 
   network adapter driver. For example, if you're using a NodeRunner (TM) 
   adapter, you'd type NR  /REMOVE <Enter>.

3. Install Windows 95 according to the instructions in your Windows 95
   documentation.   

4. After you've installed Windows 95, reinstall LANtastic Power Suite 
   according to the instructions in the previous section "Installing
   LANtastic Power Suite on a Windows 95 computer."

INSTALLING WINDOWS 95 ON A LANTASTIC POWER SUITE COMPUTER
=========================================================
This section explains how to install Windows 95 on a computer that's already 
running LANtastic Power Suite. After you've completed the setup steps here, 
you can use LANtastic Power Suite in much the same way you would on a 
computer running Windows or Windows for Workgroups. However, there will be 
some limitations. If you haven't already done so, refer to the section 
"Running LANtastic Power Suite with Windows 95" earlier in this file for 
detailed information before you begin installing your software.   

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Be sure to follow all of the setup instructions in this section carefully. 
Don't follow the on-screen instructions. To keep track of your progress, you 
can check off each step as you complete it.  
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE:  These instructions assume the computer is running Windows 3.X or 
       Windows for Workgroups. (Whichever is the case, the setup steps are
       the same.) If the computer is DOS-only, refer to the previous section
       "Installing Windows 95 on a DOS-only computer."

1. If you haven't already done so:  

   * Download the WIN95PS.EXE file from one of Artisoft's on-line support
     services (see the previous section "Downloading the files you need.")

   * Make sure you know the directory where LANtastic was installed on this 
     computer (by default, this is C:\LANTASTI). As you work through these 
     steps, you'll need to type in the path to the LANTASTI.386 network driver 
     file in your LANtastic directory.   

2. Exit Windows and check that the LANtastic network is running but the 
   SERVER program isn't. To do this, at the DOS prompt type 
   
       NET  SHOW  |MORE <Enter> 
       
   where "|" is the pipe character (Shift+\). Then complete one of 
   the following steps:   

   * If you see the line "Machine [name] is being used as a Redirector and a 
     Server," type SERVER  /REMOVE <Enter>. Then skip to step 3 below.   

   * If you see the line "Machine [name] is being used as a Redirector" (but 
     there's no mention of Server), simply go to step 3 below.  

   * If you see the message "ERROR: LANtastic (R) Redirector (REDIR) must be 
     installed" or "Bad Command or file name," type 

                     CD  LANTASTI <Enter>
                     STARTNET <Enter>
                     SERVER  /REMOVE <Enter>

     Then complete step 3.   

3. Use a text editor such as Windows Notepad to edit the batch file that runs 
   the LANtastic SERVER program (usually this is STARTNET.BAT). Then type 
   REM and a space at the beginning of the SERVER... line so it appears as 
   REM  SERVER... Save your changes and exit the file. This ensures that, 
   if the Windows 95 Setup program stalls at any point and you have to 
   restart the computer, the LANtastic SERVER program won't run. If you don't 
   find a line that begins with either SERVER or LH SERVER, then exit the file 
   and continue with step 4.   

4. At the DOS prompt, type WIN <Enter> to restart Windows.   

5. If you're installing Windows 95 from the Windows 95 CD-ROM, load it into 
   the computer's CD-ROM drive. If you're installing from diskettes, insert a 
   working copy of the first diskette in one of the computer's floppy drives.   

6. Exit all Windows applications, including LANtastic Net, then open the File 
   menu and choose Run. Type D:\SETUP where D: is the drive where you 
   placed the CD-ROM or the first diskette. Then choose OK.   

7. Follow the installation instructions in your Windows 95 documentation, 
   selecting any options you require WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:   

   * At the Choose Directory screen, it's a good idea to accept the default 
     installation location. (By default Windows 95 installs to the existing 
     WINDOWS directory.) If you specify a different installation directory, 
     you'll have to update all of the computer's configuration files by 
     reinstalling LANtastic Power Suite.   

   * At the Get Connected screen, don't select any of the three options (The 
     Microsoft Network, Microsoft Mail, or Microsoft Fax). If you want to use 
     these features, you can enable them later after you've completed the 
     instructions in this section.  

   * At the Windows Components screen, select the Install the most common 
     components... option.  

   * If an Identification window appears prompting you to supply a computer 
     name, workgroup name and computer description, you can type anything 
     in these fields. (LANtastic doesn't use this information.) Then choose 
     OK.   

   * If a Network window appears warning that LANtastic can't be installed 
     together with Client for Microsoft Networks, ignore it. Simply choose OK.  

   * If a Network window appears, warning that Setup hasn't fully detected 
     your network adapter settings, ignore it. Simply choose OK. 

   * If you're prompted to insert the Artisoft LANtastic Windows driver disk, 
     simply choose OK. Then type in the path to the LANTASTI.386 network 
     driver file. LANTASTI.386 is in the directory where LANtastic was 
     installed; by default, C:\LANTASTI. Choose OK again.  

   * At the Finishing Setup screen, choose the Finish button to restart the 
     computer. If the computer seems to lock up, turn it off then on again 
     and complete the Windows 95 Setup Safe Recovery process.  

8. If you edited a batch file that runs the LANtastic SERVER program at step 3 
   above, use a text editor to open that file. Then delete REM and the space 
   you added at the beginning of the SERVER line. Save your changes and exit 
   the file.   

9. Restart the computer. To do this, at the Windows 95 desktop, choose the 
   Start button from the taskbar, select Shutdown, then Restart.   

When the Windows 95 desktop reappears, you'll see LANtastic Net minimized 
in the taskbar. 

NOTE:  If LANtastic Net doesn't appear in the taskbar, or the network doesn't 
       function correctly, refer to the troubleshooting steps in the section
       titled Troubleshooting".

Using MOREFILE.EXE
==================
  On a LANtastic Power Suite workstation, each of your 32-bit Windows 95
  applications will, by default, be able to open only 15 files across the 
  network. If you need to open more than 15 files in one application,
  you can use use Artisoft's MOREFILE.EXE terminate-and-stay-resident
  (TSR) program to allow your workstation's Windows 95 applications to open
  a combined total of 255 files across the network. However, some computers 
  aren't compatible with MOREFILES.EXE, so don't use this application 
  unless your workstation must have more than 15 files open in one application.

  MOREFILE.EXE is included in WIN95PS.EXE, which you can download from 
  one of Artisoft's on-line support services. For more information about 
  using these services, see the section "Downloading the files you need"
  earlier in this file. After you've downloaded this program, complete the
  following steps at your workstation(s) to allow yourself to open more than
  15 files in the same application:  

  1. Copy MOREFILE.EXE to the directory where LANtastic is installed (by 
     default C:\LANTASTI).   

  2. Use a text editor to open the computer's AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 

  3. Add the following line after the line that calls the STARTNET.BAT file 
     that runs LANtastic:  

              MOREFILE  /HANDLES=handles  /TASKS=tasks

     where "handles" is the number of files you want each Windows 95 
     application to be able to open across the network, and "tasks" is the 
     maximum number of Windows 95 applications you expect to be running 
     at the same time plus 5. (Windows 95 requires 5 tasks to run.)  

  4. Save your changes and exit the file.  

  5. Make sure the FILES=... line of the computer's CONFIG.SYS file is set to 
     the maximum combined total of files you'll want to open across the 
     network (the maximum value is 255).  

NOTE:  You can use LANtastic's  /REMOVE switch to remove MOREFILE.EXE, 
       if required.

TROUBLESHOOTING
===============
LANtastic Net doesn't appear in the Windows 95 taskbar, or 
the network doesn't function correctly.
----------------------------------------------------------
1. Make sure that Artisoft LANtastic is the only network component installed. 
   To do this:   

   * At the Windows 95 desktop, choose the Start button and select Settings, 
     then Control Panel. Double-click on the Network icon to bring up the 
     Network window.  

   * If Artisoft LANtastic (version 6.0 and above) is the only entry in the 
     network components field, go to step 2.  

   * If the network components field is empty, or includes entries other than 
     Artisoft LANtastic (version 6.0 and above), repeat steps 8 - 16 in the 
     section "Installing LANtastic Power Suite on a Windows 95 computer"
     earlier in this file.   

2. Using the Windows 95 Explorer, locate the LANTASTI.386 file and the 
   LANTNET.DRV file. Make a note of the full paths to these files. Then use a 
   text editor to open the SYSTEM.INI file in the Windows directory. To use 
   the Windows 95 Notepad, for example, choose the Start button from the 
   taskbar, select Run, type SYSTEM.INI and choose OK. When you've opened the 
   file, complete the following steps:  

   * Locate the [boot] section and make sure the NETWORK DRV=... line 
     specifies the correct path to the LANTNET.DRV file. If it doesn't, type 
     in the correct path.  

   * Locate the [386Enh] section and make sure the NETWORK=... line specifies 
     the correct path to the LANTASTI.386 file. If it doesn't, type in the 
     correct path. 

   * Make sure the *VNETBIOS driver doesn't appear in the NETWORK=... line. If 
     this driver appears, delete it.  

   * Save any changes and exit the file.   

3. Restart the computer. To do this, at the Windows 95 desktop, choose the 
   Start button from the taskbar, select Shutdown, then Restart.   

4. If LANtastic Net doesn't appear in the taskbar when the Windows 95 desktop 
   reappears:

   * Open the Network window, as described in step 1, select the Artisoft 
     LANtastic (version 6.0 and above) entry and choose the Remove button to 
     delete it from the network components field.  

   * Complete steps 9 to 16 in the section "Installing LANTastic Power Suite
     on a Windows 95 computer" earlier in this file. Then restart the 
     computer.   

You have problems printing, using CD-ROM drives or 
performing other network functions.

creating or canceling network connections, or sharing files across the network, 
refer to the general guidelines in the section "Running LANtastic Power Suite 
with Windows 95" earlier in this file.
