       PRESIDENT CLINTON NOMINATES BOB KRUEGER AS AMBASSADOR 
		     TO THE REPUBLIC OF BURUNDI

     The President today announced his intention to nominate Robert
Krueger, of Texas, as Ambassador to the Republic of Burundi.

     Mr. Krueger has served his state and country as U.S. Senator,
U.S. Congressman, U.S. Ambassador at Large and Coordinator for
Mexican Affairs, Texas Railroad Commissioner, and as a university
dean and chief executive officer of a manufacturing business.
As a United States Representative, as a member of the Texas
Railroad Commission, and as Ambassador at Large, Mr. Krueger was
particularly concerned with issues related to energy and
conservation.  Prior to entering government service in 1975, Mr.
Krueger held positions in business as Chairman of the Board of
Comal Hosiery Mills and Managing Partner of the Krueger Brangus
Ranch.  From 1961-1973 he taught English and world literature at
Duke University, where he served as Vice Provost and Dean of the
College of Arts and Sciences.  He has held chairs in public
affairs at the University of Texas, Rice University, and Southern
Methodist University.  He is the author of one book and over 250
newspaper and magazine articles.

     Mr. Krueger was born in New Braunfels, Texas, in 1935, where
he continues to live, with his wife Kathleen, and daughters Mariana
and Sarah (age 4 and 5).  A graduate of New Braunfels High School,
he received his B.A. from Southern Methodist University, his M.A.
from Duke, and his M.Litt. and D.Phil. degrees from Oxford
University.  His foreign languages include French, German and
