             Introduction

Welcome to WARS (Wargaming Analysis & Recommendation
System). WARS is a system used to assist World War II wargamers
in creating more realistic wargaming scenarios by using a comput-
er program to implement table based calculations and rules that
are too cumbersome for normal games. The program also contains a
complete set of rules for World War II infantry and armor warfare
as a supplement to or a replacement for a user's current gaming
rules. Lastly, the program contains information on almost every
vehicle, weapon, and shell used in the war. This information is
        available as a single reference.

             System Requirements

             - PC DOS/MS DOS 3.2 or greater
             - 2 Mb of RAM
             - 1 Mb of EMS memory
             - 5 Mb of disk storage
             - VGA monitor (50 line capability)
             - printer (preferably Toshiba or HP LaserJet compatible)

             What This Version Contains

This program is a shareware version of WARS. It is complete
in every detail to the commercial version. It is provided in this
form so that the user can "test drive" the program before buying
        it.
The data files for the shareware version contain two armored
vehicles and all equipment associated with those vehicles. The
data files also contain personnel equipment for the crewmen of
the armored vehicles. The data in the data files is sufficient
for the user of the shareware version to try out every aspect of
        the commercial version.
The documentation file of the program contains a slightly
condensed but very complete set of documentation for the program.
The size of the documentation is 170+ pages or 545K of text. The
shareware documentation does not contain figures, table of cont-
ents, expanded appendices, and special typesetting codes. The
user is free to print the documentation or use a text browser to
        view the documentation.
The GIF graphic file contains a sample of different camouflage
nets used by different armies. The numbers beside each item is
the corresponding index in the WARS Equipment System. The commer-
cial version has a number of these pictures covering boxes,
camouflage nets, blankets, and packs. The resolution of the
picture (all pictures in the commercial version) is 640x480 by
        256 colors.

             How to Order

Print the file ORDER.FRM, complete the information on the
form, send the order form and payment to the address listed on
        the order form.

             Technical Support

WARS is supported in two ways. The first is a periodic
update of Chapter 7 Questions & Answers. All questions by users
(unless otherwise indicated by the user) will be placed in this
chapter for public consumption. Currently the update occurs on a
quarterly basis. When the user receives the update, they can
replace the chapter in the documentation with the new chapter.
The periodic update will also include the latest list of updates
to the program. If you are interested in an updated, send a
letter stating your request and an update will be promptly mailed
        postage paid.
The second method is a more expedient method. If you require
an answer faster than the periodic update, then you can enclose
an SASE (self addressed stamped envelope with proper postage)
with your question. The answer will be sent within 3 working
days. Please enclose your name, change of address, and serial
number. Questions without this information will not be answered
although the SASE will be returned with an explanation. Questions
will only be accepted by the owner (and owner's address) of the
        software.

             "Features"

As with all software, bugs may occur (commonly called
"features" by the trade). If you find such a problem, mail as
much information as you can about the problem, what you were
doing, and the configuration of your system. An update will be
made to the program and the update will be mailed as soon as the
        fix is made.

             Regarding Data on the Databases

Occasional you may find data in the databases that you
disagree with. This could include areas such as weapon's veloci-
ty, shell penetration amounts, vehicle speeds, etc.. If you find
such information, please contact us with your concerns. The data
for the program took six years to compile and some of the infor-
mation came from single sources and could not be collaborated.
Please send the following information regarding data dis-
        crepancies:

             - name of data source
             - publisher
             - date published
             - copy of information (page or pages showing data)

If we find that your information is correct (some sources
are known to be false or misleading), we will add your data to
the appropriate database. We will also send your data out with
the next periodic update along with acknowledging your contribu-
tion as the source. Please do not worry if the source is in a
foreign language. The staff knows 7 different languages,
although, please make your requests in English.
If the information is not added to the appropriate database,
an explanation will be mailed describing the reason for the
        information's status.
