========================================================================

2. QUICK INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

The contents of this Update Kit have been provided as a self-
extracting zip file: UPDTPI10.EXE. When you typed "UPDTPI10", all
of the tools in the kit were extracted and copied into the directory
   in which UPDTPI10 was located.

For ease of use, it is recommended that you create a separate
directory to be used only for the Update Kit. If you did not do that,
you may want to do that now. Copy UPDTPI10 to that directory, then
type "UPDTPI10" again to extract the files into that unique
   directory.

========================================================================

3. TOOL - OPTIMIZED IDE DRIVERS

The Windows 3.1 and 3.11 IDE drivers will optimize Windows performance
for the NxPCI Baby AT Motherboard. Run the EZIDE install utility
included with this update kit to install these drivers.

   EZIDE Install Utility

This utility is provided by DTC to automatically install the Windows
device drivers onto your hard disk drive. This utility will copy all
necessary files and update your SYSTEM.INI file. The utility
requires that the C: drive has been partitioned (DOS FDISK) and
   formatted (DOS FORMAT).

This utility consists of the 5 files listed below:

   1. DTCSPEED.EXE
   2. EZIDE.EXE
   3. LICENSE.DTC
   4. README.1ST
   5. WIN4BM.386

   HOW TO USE EZIDE

   1. Boot to a DOS screen or exit Windows to a DOS screen.
   2. Move to the directory in which you copied the contents of your
Nx586 Processor PCI Update Kit (Recommended directory name is
      "NXTOOLS").
   3. Type "EZIDE" and hit <Enter>

5. TOOL - WINDOWS CPU IDENTIFIER 2.0

The Windows CPU Identifier 2.0 is designed to prevent applications
from malfunctioning due to mis-identification of the Nx586 processor
   by Windows programs.

   IMPORTANT NOTE

This is a shareware application and is intended ONLY as a TEMPORARY
SOLUTION for WINDOWS applications which do not work properly due to
misidentification of the Nx586 processor. If a WINDOWS application
displays the CPU type as something other than "Nx586 processor" or if a
WINDOWS application states that the software "Requires 486 or Greater",
then the application has misidentified the Nx586 processor. The WINDOWS
CPU Identifier may provide assistance in these cases.

If you have a problem with a particular Windows application, NexGen
recommends that you contact the software vendor for upgrade information.
Upgrading the software is a more effective solution. The Windows CPU
Identifier is provided only as an interim solution.

INSTALLATION OF WINDOWS CPU IDENTIFIER 2.0

Copy the following files into the WINDOWS directory on your hard drive.
These files should be in the directory in which you extracted the Update
   Kit:

   1. WINID20.EXE
   2. GOODIES.DLL
   3. PROCHOOK.DLL

HOW TO RUN THE WINDOWS CPU IDENTIFIER 2.0

Run the Windows CPU Identifier before running a Windows application
   which misidentifies the Nx586 processor.

*** NexGen highly recommends you use the Windows CPU Identifier ONLY
*** WHEN NEEDED TO AVOID IMPROPER CPU IDENTIFICATION and close the
*** Windows CPU Identifier after exiting the application it assists.

   RECOMMENDED WINDOWS OPERATION
   -----------------------------

Move to any Program Group of your choice in Windows and create a new
Program Item for WINID20.EXE. To do this:

   1. Click on File of Program Manager
   2. Click on New
   3. Choose Program Item and click on OK
   4. Fill in the details of WINID20.EXE including its path and the
directory details and then click on OK.
      A. If you installed the files to the Windows directory on your C:
drive, the path would be C:\WINDOWS
   5. The icon for Windows CPU Identifier will be created in the Program
      Group
   6. To run the Windows CPU Identifier double click on the CPU
      Identifier balloon icon.

6. TOOL - DOS CPU IDENTIFIER 2.0

The DOS CPU Identifier 2.0 is designed to prevent applications from
malfunctioning due to mis-identification of the Nx586 processor by
   DOS programs.

   IMPORTANT NOTE

This is a shareware application and is intended ONLY as a TEMPORARY
SOLUTION for DOS applications which do not work properly due to
misidentification of the Nx586 processor. If a DOS application displays
the CPU type as something other than "Nx586 processor" or if a DOS
application states that the software "Requires 486 or Greater", then the
application has misidentified the Nx586 processor. The DOS CPU Identifier
may provide assistance in these cases.

If you have a problem with a particular DOS application, NexGen
recommends that you contact the software vendor for upgrade information.
Upgrading the software is a more effective solution. The DOS CPU
Identifier is provided only as an interim solution.

INSTALLATION OF DOS CPU IDENTIFIER 2.0

Copy the following files into the DOS directory on your hard drive.
These files should be in the directory in which you extracted the Update
   Kit:

   1. IDON.COM
   2. IDOFF.COM

HOW TO RUN THE DOS CPU IDENTIFIER 2.0

   1. Make sure the DOS directory is in your path. You can do this by typing
PATH at the command prompt and hitting <Enter>. The directories that are
in PATH are listed. If DOS is not listed, then open autoexec.bat file
in your root directory and add it to your PATH and reboot the system.

   2. Type IDON and hit <Enter> to run the Identifier.

   3. Run the program or game which you want to assist.

   4. Type IDOFF to run the program that turns OFF the Identifier.

SUGGESTION FOR DOS CPU IDENTIFIER OPERATION

Create a batch file for each of the programs/games you want the DOS CPU
Identifier to assist. A sample batch (ID.BAT) file would look like:

   1. Type EDIT ID.BAT at the DOS prompt
   2. You will see a blank screen.

      A. If the program/game that needs to be assisted is an .EXE file
         then enter the following text:

         IDON
         <game directory>\<game name>.EXE
         IDOFF

      B. If the program/game that needs to be assisted is a .BAT file
         then enter the following text:

         IDON
         CALL <game directory>\<game name>.BAT
         IDOFF

    3. Save the batch file by typing 'alt-f', then 's'
