INSTALLING BBSLIST into TERMINATE's HOST Mini-BBS SYSTEM v4.+

Now, offer your user's the PREMIER BBS List available, via your HOST
System. This "Step by Step" guide will have you up and running with a
  minimum of effort.

This file assumes you have TERMINATE HOST Mini-BBS v4 or greater, setup
and running on your system and, you are somewhat familiar with the
necessary TERMINATE and HOST configuration files. These will be displayed
  as necessary in this documentation.

A NOTE on my system and setup.....

I run HOST via Intermail/Interecho along with Allfix and Golded on a
  486DLC40 (386DX40 w/Cyrix Upgrade chip) with 20 MB Ram, with DOS 6.22,
  QEMM 7.04 and DESQView 2.63.

Since I'm involved in Beta testing Terminate/Allfix and BBSLIST, I have
several different setups but, this is the main system I have used since
placing TerHOST online full time in April of 1996.

  An example of my system's directory structure is, as follows;

 C:\ <-- Root directory on drive C
   |_TE\ <-- Root Terminate Directory
   | |_AF\ <-- Allfix (v4.41) Main Directory
   | |_HOST\ <-- Root HOST Directory
   | |_DOORS\ <-- Root DOORS Directory
   | |_TERMAIL\ <-- Root Termail Directory
   | |_UTILS\ <-- Root Utilities Directory
   | |_MMENU\ <-- Root Multi-Menu Directory
   | |_READER\ <-- The READER Online Message Reader Door
   | |_BBSLIST\ <-- BBSLIST Directory
   |
   |
   |_EP\ <-- External Protocol Directory (Also in Path)
   |_UTILS\ <-- System Utilities Directory (Also in Path)
   |_ZIP\ <-- Directory for ALL Archiver/Compression Programs (Also in Path)
   |
   |
   |_DOORS\ <-- Root directory for DOOR Files
   | |_ATW\ <-- Across the Wire BBS online Magazine
   | |_OLA\ <-- Online Legal Advisor
   | |_LORD\ <-- Legend of the Red Dragon BBS Door
   | |_BRE\ <-- BRE Directory
   |
   |_FILE\ <-- Root directory of HOST's File Areas
   | |_TERM\ <-- Terminate Support Files
   | |_EZSET\ <-- EZ-SET Creations Setup Help files
   | |_READERS\ <-- Offline Mail Readers files
   | |_ALLFIX\ <-- Allfix Support Files
   | |_DOORS\ <-- BBS Doors and Utilities
   |
   |_CDROM\ <-- EZRom Root Directory (EZRom configuration/drop-in files)
   | |_NOW18\ <-- Night Owl 18 Directory
   | |_NOW19\ <-- Night Owl 19 Directory
   | |_NOW20\ <-- Night Owl 20 Directory
   | |_SWVWIN2\ <-- SharewareVault WIndows 2 Directory
   |

This obviously isn't all the directories we have setup for HOST but, it
should give you an ideas of how we have our system setup.

First.... Create a directory for BBSLIST. I would suggest a subdirectory
under Terminate ie; C:\TE\BBSLIST. Then unpack the BBSLIST into this
  directory (Example listed above).

Next...... Change to your BBSLIST directory ie; CD\TE\BBSLIST and run
SETBBS.EXE to configure BBSLIST for your system. Of special interest
is the BBSLIST Export Datafile Editor. Here are a few examples from my
system. When starting SETBBS.EXE, you will get the Setup Menu...

make sure you have the selected protocol in your path.

CAUTION: IF YOU INTEND TO IMPORT/EXPORT LISTS WITH OTHER BBS'S, ALL
SYSTEMS IN THE NET MUST USE THE SAME CATEGORIES.

You are able to indicate which records are EXPORTABLE via the Online

If you are going to IMPORT/EXPORT records with other systems, you will

Once you've completed the SETBBS for your system, you can test your
setup by using the command line BBSLIST -L to make sure the categories
  you've setup are properly displayed.

I've found it's easier to call external programs via a batch file rather
than try to cram everything into the configuration editor, some of which
simply will not fit. I use a simple batch file called BBSLST.BAT and it
  is, as follows....

                        BBSLST.BAT

      ECHO OFF
ECHO * Opening BBS List Door >> C:\TE\HOST\HOST.LOG
      SET DSZPORT=2
      SET DSZLOG=C:\TE\HOST\HOST.LOG
      C:
      CD\TE\BBSLIST
      BBSLIST -N 1 -D C:\TE\DORINFO1.DEF -P 1
      CD\TE

Line 1. Turns off local display of batch file running
Line 2. Writes note to HOST's log file
Line 3. Set's the DSZ Port for D/L of the compressed list. This can
be placed in the batch file that starts HOST instead of here.
If this environmental variable is needed with other programs,
then put it in the HOST.BAT. If not, then in this file will
          be OK.
Line 4. Set's the DSZ Log environment. Same explanation as given for
          Line 3 applies here.
Line 5. Changes to Drive C
Line 6. Changes to the BBSLIST Directory
Line 7. Command line that starts BBSLIST. See BBSLIST Documentation for
          explanations.
Line 8. Returns to the Terminate directory when leaving BBSLIST

  --------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: Terminate v3 & 4 worked better with the DORINFO1.DEF drop file
If you choose to use DOOR.SYS with either v3 or v4, you may NOT be
able to run BBSLIST via MMENU. If you must use MMENU with
either v3 or 4, you MUST use the DORINFO1.DEF drop file.
  --------------------------------------------------------------------------

I use the following batch file to open BBSLIST for local use to quickly
Add/Edit or View records. It's a little quicker that using SETBBS.EXE
each time. I call it via DESQView's Open Program Menu.

                 LOCAL.BAT

                @ECHO OFF
                CD\TE
                CD\TE\BBSLIST
                BBSLIST -L
                EXIT

Now.... You are ready to setup HOST to run BBSLIST. You can enter the
HOST configuration editor either from TERMINATE <ALT><O><ENTER> or
from the HOST Waiting for Call Screen <U><ENTER>.

If entering from Terminate's Terminal screen, scroll down to HOST
  Settings....

NOTE: Terminate v3 & 4 have only two slots available for All User's.
You can run BBSLIST from Multi-Menu (MMENU01.ZIP) as you would for any
other door. MMENU01.ZIP is the current version of MMENU and is FREQ'able
  from 1:2250/24.

Last thing you need to do is add the BBSLIST selection to your MENU's.
Here is an example of how I have mine setup. Yours may be slightly
 different, so modify as needed.
