.h ͸
.h Installation
.h ;

SyncTime is a DOS executable. It is designed to run from a workstation
PC connected to a Novell Netware File Server. (SyncTime will work on a
PC *not* connected to a file server, but it will set the time for that PC
only.) SyncTime should be run AFTER logging into the network has been
done. The name used to login to the server must have CONSOLE Operator
Rights. (This is assigned in the SYSCON utility by the network
Administrator). The installation procedure for SyncTime is very simple;
Just copy the program "SYNCTIME.EXE" to any directory either on a local
or network hard drive (SyncTime can also be run from a floppy diskette).

YOU'RE READY TO GO

Once you've complete the installation you can type SyncTime from the DOS
prompt to run the program. See the rest of this document for special
features and other information you need to properly evaluate SyncTime.
We hope you enjoy the program.

.h ͸
.h Configuration
.h ;

The first time you run SyncTime program will ask you to set some
configuration options. Most of the options will be self explanatory.

   1. The Modem Type: For most users, the default (Generic Hayes)
should be selected here. If you know exactly
what make and model your modem is, and it is
included in the displayed list, you may select
your modem by highlighting the name and pressing
                        the <Enter> key.

   2. Time Zone: SyncTime will adjust the current time based on
where in the country you live. You must select
a time zone before SyncTime will run.

   3. COM Port: There are 4 possible 'Ports' that your modem can
be connected to. The default is COM 1, but many
PCs are configured with a MOUSE on COM 1. Newer
PCs also often have 2 serial ports built in. If
your computer has an INTERNAL modem (one inside
the PC case) it is quite possible that your
modem is on COM port 3 or 4. If your modem is
EXTERNAL (outside the case, connected with a
cable) it is likely connected to COM 2. If you
have DOS v6 or higher, or Windows v3.1 or
higher, you probably have a program called MSD
(Microsoft Diagnostics) which will tell you how
many COM ports you have installed. If you're not
sure, start with COM 3 for an INTERNAL modem, or
COM 2 for an EXTERNAL unit. If you don't hear
the modem dialing when the message "Dialing..."
appears, press the ESCape key to abort the
process and re-run SyncTime and try another port.

   4. Pulse. If your telephone requires pulse dialing
instead of Tones, mark this box by either
clicking with the mouse, or pressing the Space
                        Bar.

   5. DIAL 9. If your telephone system requires you
to dial a '9' to obtain an outside line, mark
this box by clicking with the mouse, or pressing
                        the Space bar.

SyncTime will create a file called SYNCTIME.INI in the CURRENT directory
that contains the values you entered above. Once this file is created,
SyncTime will not ask you for these items again. If you need to make
any changes, start SyncTime with the command switch /NEW. (ie: from the
DOS prompt, type SYNCTIME /NEW). This will erase the existing .INI
file and allow you to create a new one.

.i Other features:

SyncTime will probably work best (automatically) if placed in a BATCH
file on the PC that contains the modem. You can run SyncTime before you
start your normal boot-up program. If you want to test the success or
failure of SyncTime's connection, the program will set the DOS ERRORLEVEL
variable to a 1 if the connection could not be made. The ERRORLEVEL
will be 0 if the time was properly set.
