                              Introduction

The key to successful brewing lies in keeping good
records of each batch! Like most, I tend to learn from my
experiences (good and bad). My weak point has always been
in locating the scraps of paper where I invariably kept my
      brewing notes.

This was the inspiration for SUDSW - the brewers
cookbook and log program. From a simple attempt to
coordinate some recipe and log notes, SUDSW turned into a
year-long project and has resulted in an extremely
      comprehensive brewer's program.

This is the fifth major release of SUDS for Microsoft
Windows 3.1 and involved almost a total rewrite of the DOS
version. The two versions are extremely similar and share
the same file structures. You can move easily between both
versions and can even keep both in the same directory if you
      wish!

                     SUDSW 2.2 changes

o Added function to allow log entries to be rated as per
Charlie Papazian's50 point scale. Each log entry can have
unlimited number of 'tastings' with scores and free form
        judge's comments.
o Fixed Cancel button on SUDSW filter option. Cancel will now
        cancel the database search.
o Improved delete functions. Deleting Recipe will now delete
any logs. Deleting logs will delete any hop entries, tasting
        notes, etc.
o Fixed minor bug with Import/Export dropping lines of text.
o Now allows printer selection/setup with multiple
        printers/faxmodems, etc.

                     SUDSW 2.1 changes

o Added auto-indent feature to editor
o Changed Filter to no longer unfilter when Cancel
button pressed from Filter dialog box (This began
        to ANNOY me).
      o Minor performance enhancements
o Fixed minor bug with Log selection after Template cancelled.
o Changed export function to only export 'filtered' recipes.
Added export to text file function.
o Added function to maintain Hop AAU entries.
o Fixed problem with Import function 'zeroing' out Final gravity
        values.

                      SUDSW 2.0 changes

o Added 'button bar' with custom pushbuttons for the most
        commonly used SUDSW functions.
o Added robust filter function to allow you to selectively
list recipes based on Category, Brewing method, Gravity
ranges, alcohol content and/or textual contents.
o Fixed problem with Label dialog box with Enter key.
o Fixed problem with recipe selection dialog box related
to keyboard support in listbox of recipes.
o Recompiled with new version of Borland Pascal and new
version of Topaz resulting in minor performance improvement.

                      SUDSW 1.1 changes

NOTE - You must run SUDSCVT utility to convert old release
files of SUDS to new format prior to running (See README.TXT).

o Added logic to default starting and finishing gravities from
recipe text when initially saving recipe (already present in
       DOS version).
o Added logic to open recipes and log entries in full-screen mode.
o Changed means of storing Hop names to use SUDSHOP.DBF rather than
SUDSHST.DAT file. Also keeps last AAU value for each Hop entered
        to pre-fill future values.
o Changed calculation method for Hop IBUs as per Zymurgy hop issue
statistics and formula developed by Alan Edwards.
o Fixed Hop IBU field to no longer report IBU value as decimal.

      SUDSW includes the following features:
o DBASE III compatible recipe and log files which can be
browsed by any utility capable of viewing DBASE III
           file formats.
o Multi-windowing editor featuring undo, full cut and
paste capability between windows, mouse support and
           Windows clipboard import/export.
o Ability to filter recipes by Category, Brewing method,
Gravity ranges, alcohol content and/or textual contents.
o Ability to import and export standard ASCII text files
to and from the SUDS recipe database allowing recipes
to be shared with SUDS and non-SUDS brewers.
o Ability to import and export formatted SUDS SXF-files
allowing you to share your recipes easily with other
           SUDS and SUDSW users.
o Recipe and log printing and reporting capabilities.
o Categorization of recipes by type (ie Pale Ale, Stout
and any categories you may have defined)
o Built-in pop-up calculator to help with calculations.
      o Built-in pop-up calendar
o Hop-IBU spreadsheet to calculate hop IBUs for beer
           batches.
      o Printing of beer labels.

SUDSW is not, nor has it ever been free software or "Public
Domain". SUDSW is being distributed as shareware and
continued use beyond the 30-day trial period is prohibited.

Unlike a new recipe, SUDSW is a no-lose proposition! You're
free to try out SUDSW for a 30 day period after which you can
pay the nominal $20 registration fee if you are satisfied.

Because SUDSW is distributed as shareware, you are strongly
encouraged to share SUDSW with other brewers. I would ask
only that if you do use the program, you pay the
registration fee. Shareware only works as well as it is
supported and this helps keep software prices reasonable!

The support for SUDSW will help determine whether or not it
will continue to be released as shareware.

Hardware requirements - This release of SUDS requires at least
2 megs of memory and Microsoft Windows release 3.1 or higher
      (or OS/2 2.1).

A non-Windows version of SUDS is also available (SUDS21.EXE).
This is functionally equivalent, though character based!

Full permission is hereby granted to redistribute SUDSW in its
entirety free of charge provided the above conditions are met.
SUDSW may be freely uploaded to any electronic BBS's or libraries.
SUDSW may also be distributed via shareware libraries provided
that the diskette cost does not exceed $15.

If you wish to avoid the download charges for SUDSW (>200K),
you may pre-register your copy by sending payment along with
a request for the latest version and I will send you the most
recent release on diskette (please specify diskette type
      and density).
