Spotlight 4.0 July, 1994 Copyright 1994 Searchlight Software, Inc.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Installation
Spotlight 4.0 is distributed as a patch that upgrades your existing
Spotlight 3.0 file to version 4.0. To install the Spotlight 4.0 patch,
your original Spotlight 3.0 executable file (SPOT.EXE dated 2-06-93) must
be available. The install procedure is simple:

      (1) Move the files PATCH.EXE and PATCH.RTP into the directory
          that contains your SPOT.EXE file.

      (2) Run the command PATCH. The patch process will automatically
convert your SPOT.EXE file to version 4.0.

      (3) After the patch is applied, you may delete the PATCH.EXE
          and PATCH.RTP files.

The patch program requires your original, unmodified SPOT.EXE file. If
patching fails, reload SPOT.EXE from your original disk and try again.
If you still can't get a valid patch, contact Searchlight Software for
  assistance.

New features included in Spotlight 4.0 are outlined below.

Alias Support
Spotlight 4.0 can display, edit and sort by alias names. To display
alias names, press the Toggle View button once after Spotlight loads.

Alias names can be edited by adding or changing the name that appears
on the user's Info screen settings, as in Searchlight.

To sort accounts by alias name, select the 'Alias' sort option on the
filter screen. Note that accounts with blank alias names appear first.
You may need to page through the blank alias names to reach the first
  account with a nonblank alias.

Spotlight can accept an alias name at the same time a new account is
created. Accounts with or without alias names can be deleted; Spotlight
automatically deletes the alias name when appropriate.

User Options
The user Info, Options, Preference and Access screens are updated to
match the screens used in Searchlight 4.0. This includes access to the
  RIP Font Size field.

User Adjust
The user Adjust screen has been expanded to include total calls,
default file protocol, default subboard, and default language. The
'Stats' screen has been eliminated, since the information that appeared
there is now available on the Adjust screen.

To change a user's default subboard or default language, type a valid
subboard name or language name into the appropriate field. Spotlight
does not check the validity of subboard or language names; however, if
you enter an invalid name, Searchlight will replace it with the name of
the first valid subboard or language during the caller's next connection.

Preference Attributes
Spotlight 4.0 adds preference attributes to the Filter screen and the
  Manual Adjust (Mass Validate) screen.

Colors
We changed some of the color mappings and added a background color to
the main user list screen. You can change the background color using
  Spotlight Options below.

Spotlight Options
The Set Filter screen contains a subscreen called "Spotlight Options".
To access the options screen, double click on this selection, or move
the cursor to it and press Enter. The following options are available:

  1. Start At ..................... Set Filter
  2. Main Background Color ........ Default
  3. Monochrome (LCD) Mode ........ Off
  4. Auto Save Configuration ...... Yes

  Start At
By default, Spotlight begins at the Set Filter screen. If you prefer,
Spotlight can start at the User List screen. Simply toggle this
option and be sure to save the configuration. The next time you run
Spotlight, it will begin at the User List screen.

  Main Background Color
By default, Spotlight will choose a background color for the main
User List screen of either blue, green, cyan or black, depending on
how your colors are configured in Searchlight. If you prefer a specific
    background color, select it here.

  Monochrome (LCD) Mode
When this option is enabled, Spotlight operates in monochrome mode,
using only black and while colors. Monochrome mode is often useful
when you are running Spotlight on laptops with monochrome displays.

  Auto Save Configuration
Spotlight can save its current configuration, including the contents
of the Set Filter screen, Spotlight Options screen, and the current
view mode. If you select Auto Save, Spotlight will update its config
file each time it exits. Otherwise, Spotlight will prompt you with
a yes/no prompt each time it exits.

Spotlight's configuration is saved in a small file called SPOT.CFG,
which is located in your Searchlight data directory. If you wish to
reset Spotlight to its defaults, you may do so simply by deleting this
    file.
