ShutDown NOW! - Read Me First:

Please print out this text at first!

Features / Idea:
-------------------------------------------------

ShutDown NOW! (short: SHDN) is an application to make it easier, faster and
more comfortable to shut down Windows 95 - or Windows NT version 3.5x or 4.0.

I think that it is far too much trouble to click on 'Start' then on 'Shutdown'
and then on 'OK' to shutdown (or relog to) an operating system. - It is saver
indeed, but a detour and not very comfortable if you need an automatically re-
boot at a specific time (BBS systems, network servers, etc.), or if you want to
schedule a program before shutdown.

For me, some of my harddisks did not respond quick enough if I enabled the
power-off mode with Adaptec's EZ-SCSI, and Windows hanged on shutdown instead
of rebooting my system. Therefore I implemented an initialization of all HD's
which I can enable or disable, if it is needed or not.

Last but not least, Windows 95th boot- and shutdown screens can be enabled or
disabled each for itself. That is supported by many applications now, but not
in a small, handy program without the need of thinking: "Which was the tool,
that supported this feature? - And how did it work? ...".

ShutDown NOW! v1.2 - Quick Installation:
-------------------------------------------------

General: Don't rename SHDN.exe (upper- and lower cases are allowed)!

1.) Move the four icons (*.ico files) and
the main program (SHDN.exe) into a folder
    of your choice.

If you want, you can move all the files,
but only the above files are necessary
    to run the program.

(You can change the icons to up to eight
other icons with the same name, if you
want to create your own system-tray
animation. I will place other icon
file-sets to my WEB site the next days ...)

2.) Create a shortcut on your desktop for
SHDN.exe (and the HELP files), rename
the shortcut (NOT THE PROGRAM ITSELF!)
to e.g. 'ShutDown NOW! v1.2' - and place
all shortcuts where you want (e.g. in the
    'Start/Program' menu).

3.) Run the 'ShutDown NOW! v1.2' shortcut
or run SHDN.exe directly from it's folder.

4.) Don't wonder, if it is shown for several times
in your task-list, if you start it the first
time: It is preparing some settings in the
registry and installs itself in the shell.

... THIS IS ONLY ONCE, THE FIRST TIME YOU
START THE PROGRAM, AFTER YOU GOT IT!

-------------------------------------------------
IF YOU HAVE TROUBLES:
---------------------

Copy the standard SHDN.INI into you Windows directory!
     (This resets all previos settings!)

                       or

Delete SHDN.INI in your Windows directory!

                       or

Use the UNINST.EXE to remove some registry entries,
if you have deleted SHDN.exe and Windows reports
that it cannot find the program. - This is also
recommended for NT v3.5x users who do not want to
edit SHDN.INI's Dialog=0 entry.

UNINST.EXE has also a reset function to restore
all default settings.
