Shark Corpse is a fantasy course located in the developing community
of Discovery Bay on Lantau Island, about twenty minutes by hydrofoil
west of Hong Kong. To the people of Hong Kong, Discovery Bay is
paradise. It is very sparsely populated (Guiness has ranked certain
parts of Hong Kong as the most densely populated in the world), and it
has something unknown in downtown Hong Kong: fresh air. In actuality,
there is an R.T. Jones course in Discovery Bay. If you've seen the
excellent mini-series Noble House, the scene towards the end where the
Taipan and the representative from the Bank of China played golf was
filmed on this course.

Shark Corpse GC is a difficult course with some tight, tree lined
holes and multi-tiered greens. Often, a putt will be easy if it is
on the correct side of the hole and extremely difficult from the wrong
side. Also, pins located on the edge of some greens many not be easily
accessible from the same side of the fairway because of trees. Look
carefully at pin placements and the surrounding slopes. In the course's
background, I've tried to draw the 360 degree view from the beach at
Discovery Bay as accurately as possible. To the west are mountains
with a condominium complex at their base. To the east are Kowloon and
Hong Kong Island, with its skyscrapers barely visible through the ever
present pollution and dwarfed by the almost vertical Victoria Peak.
Missing, because I couldn't draw them well, are the traffic jam of ships
in Hong Kong Harbor, a high rise behind the condos where my brother used
to live, and the most famous landmark on Lantau Island: the Po Lin
Monastery with its gigantic statue of Budda. Yes, it's really called
Po Lin, but unfortunately, I'm sure it has nothing to do with my
Russian ancestry.

I wish to thank the following people that I have borrowed objects and
parts of my background from. In every case, the object/background part
was greatly modified. I find it much easier to create a "new" object
by altering existing ones to the point beyond recognition, as opposed
to creating them from scratch.
