SchedX Flexible Event Scheduler for Windows 3.0+ Version 1.01
--------------------------------------------------------------

SchedX is a flexible event scheduling program for Windows. It requires:
  1) Windows 3.0 or higher (3.1 is recommended) and,
  2) VBRUN100.DLL in a directory in your PATH= statement.

Notes:

SchedX allows you to schedule up to 256 events at any point in the future, up to the year 2078. The event can be a reminder alarm or the launching of a program. Use it to remind you of birthdays and appointments, initiate system backups, start long-running programs after hours. Anything you can do with the Program Manager 'Run' command you can do with SchedX, only later!

Note of relief:

It's good to get that legal stuff over with.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Installation:

  1) Copy SCHEDX.EXE to your Windows directory, or a directory of
     your choice.

  2) Copy SCHEDX.INI to your Windows directory.

  3) You will need VBRUN100.DLL in your Windows directory or in
one of the directories listed in the 'PATH' statement. To
see this list, go to a DOS prompt in Windows and type
'PATH'. If you obtained this software on a diskette, then
VBRUN100.DLL may be on the diskette. VBRUN100.DLL is
available free of charge on many bulletin boards and
     information services.

  4) SchedX works best when it works all the time. You may want
to add it to your 'Startup' group so it's started when
Windows is. It can't execute your scheduled events if it
     isn't active.

Should you ever wish to uninstall SchedX, simply delete SCHEDX.EXE and SCHEDX.INI.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Use:

SchedX uses a calendar/clock oriented approach. Each event has a Name (up to 25 characters), a Date and Time, a descriptive Note, and an Action.

Events are accessed by name (upper/lower case is not important). You can edit an existing event by typing its name or by selecting it from the drop-down list, and then pressing the 'Schedule it...' button. Pressing the button without a name brings up the next scheduled event for possibe changes. Entering a new name creates a new event record with all the fields set to their last saved defaults.

The Elapsed mode allows scheduling an event up to 23 hours and 59 minutes from the present; Normal mode allows scheduling at any time up to midnight on 12/31/2078.

In the Calendar bar, use the scrolls to set the day and year, and the list box to select the month. Similarly, the Clock bar sets the hour and minute, and the 24-hour or AM/PM clock system.

The Note can be of any reasonable length, but the combined length of all the Names, Notes, and Actions is limited to about 64k bytes.

The Alarm option causes SchedX to pop up a reminder box with the Name, Date/Time, and Note. The Run option allows entry of a command line (in place of the Note) which is passed to Windows. This command consists of a program name and any command-line options for that program. Anything you can execute through the Program Manager 'Run' command should work here, and in fact it's a good idea to test your entry there first if you have any doubts about it working. SchedX trusts you to get it right, but will not crash if your command cannot be executed when its time comes. You can control whether your program executes in a normal window or as an icon with the Run Mode list box.

The 'Done' button shrinks the SchedX window to show only the date and time and the next scheduled event; use the usual Windows minimize button to run it as an icon. The 'Terminate' button ends the program after giving you a chance to change your mind.

Mostly it should be clear how to use SchedX (I hope), and there are a few bells and whistles that I'll leave it to you to discover. One hint: don't be afraid to use the 'Enter' and 'Escape' keys.

Registration:

It's so easy! Just stuff a $15.00 bill in an envelope and send it to:

	Michael's Crazy Enterprises, Inc.
	PO Box 20012
	Tallahassee, FL 32316-0012

If you're a Florida resident, please don't forget the sales tax.

Registration gets you:
  1) The satisfaction of knowing you did the right thing.
  2) Notice of upgrades.
  3) Limited free support.
  4) A manual, if I ever write one.

Registration does not get you:
  1) On anybody else's mailing list.
  2) A guest spot on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

Failing to register gets you:
  1) Well, nothing, really.

If this is not OK with you then don't register the software.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Miscellaneous:

I think it works. All comments/bug reports/suggestions are welcomed.

SchedX works just fine with Windows 3.0, but some of the non-essential text displays don't look right.

The current date and time, and the next scheduled event, are accessible via DDE. The Application and Topic are both 'SchedX'; the Items for date, time and the next event are 'DateNow', 'TimeNow', and 'NextEvent', respectively.

If it makes your life better, that's all I really want. But where's the inexpensive, independent software gonna come from if those who can afford to don't support it?

Enough talk.
Use! Enjoy!
