Rise Of The Triad - Super Cheats Culled From Various Sources
After you are in the game play area, you must type in directly from the
keyboard DIPSTICK or \ECC in order to activate the Cheat Mode. Some codes

[Also after entering the cheat mode you can use the INSERT key to cycle
through all weapons available by repeatingly pressing it to step through the
weapons in ascending order up to the Dark Staff & Excalibat. You also get a
less powerful Dog Mode too- he won't go under barriers as the Powerup Dog
Mode will! See also \DOG. Not all weapons are accessable by this method in
the shareware episode.] rsb

CODES THAT WORK ONLY WITH THE REGISTERED VERSION OF ROTT
WOOF \DOG Dog Power Up (This Dog Mode cheat will let you go under
barriers! Use \GTL to go to E2A1 "Into The Castle" and try
the Dog Mode obtained by cycling the Insert key versus \DOG.
The barriers are the first things to both the left and right
sides before you get to the spinning blades.)
CUJO \GWD Weapon mode of Dog Mode
HOMERUN \GWC Excalibat
KESODEATH \GWB Dark Staff
SPLIT \GWA Split Missile

Special use notes on Dog Mode and Excalibat. To get either the BarkBlast or
ExcaliBlast you must keep the fire button (or key) pressed down to let the
"Blast" build up to full strength. Try it on both and listen to how the
dog's bark changes (it builds up in pitch before the death dealing bark-
also try regular barking at plants, urns, etc. and nothing happens; Bark-
Blast devastates them) and how you see a deadly stream of baseballs come
from Excalibat! These operational procedures are best when not applied if
you are in a big hurry especially with the Excalibat (You can't get hurt in
Dog Mode!)! (9/8/95)

Regarding the Dog mode- do not under estimate its importance! I repeat do
not under estimate its importance! You will notice that some areas are
isolated by barriers that you can see under but not walk through- in Dog
mode you can go where no man has gone before but you had better not dilly
dally or else you'll run out of time and then you'll be on your own! If you
select Dog Mode through a cheat- you won't be able to go under barriers as
in the true power up (you can using \DOG but not by getting Dog Mode using
repetitive pressing of the Insert key), but you will be able to go over some
pillars by "attacking them" or moving up to them and activating attack
(moving up close and barking at them while still keeping "forward pressure"
or motion against the pillar)! (5/25/95) The "attacking them" was, at the
time, the unnoticed BarkBlast! Keep pushing against the pillars while
holding fire down and when the BarkBlast comes you will go over the pillar!
(9/10/95)

Extra info on Dog Mode (6/6/95) when you are awarded Dog Mode via a power
up or you use the cheat mode using \ECC (to enable cheat mode) and \DOG you
will also be able to go under the fireballs that are shot from walls.
The cheat Dog Mode that is obtained by repetitive pressing the Insert key
(after enabling cheat mode) will not get you low enough to the floor to go
under the fireballs much less (as previously mentioned) partial barriers. I
guess one cheat Dog Mode gives you a Great Dane and the other cheat Dog Mode
gives you a Dachshund!

One important point to remember about the Cheat Mode and game saves. When
you save a game you had better do it in a safe place that will give you
enough time to type DIPSTICK CHOJIN or \ECC \WWW because the game save does
not save your super status- it would be bad to RESTORE your game that you
saved at an intense moment (it wasn't that intense at the time) to re-appear
in a weakened state in the middle of being assaulted. No one can type that
fast- can they!?

SPECIAL ADVISORY concerning game crashes with Version 1.2a:
DO NOT USE A WEAPON THAT IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO KILL EL OSCURO IN YOUR FIRST
ENCOUNTER WITH HIM IN E4 A7. YOU SHOULD MERELY WEAR HIM DOWN SO HE WILL
"CHICKEN OUT" AND TUCK OUT VIA THE EXIT. YOU WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO GO TO THE
NEXT LEVEL ONLY AFTER EL OSCURO MAKES HIS HASTY EXIT! YOU WILL RUN INTO A
MUTATED MULTIPLE HEAD EL OSCURO (LOOKS KINDA LIKE A CENTIPEDE) IN E4 A10.
(Advised of program bug and upcoming fix in a newer version by Apogee on
May 9, 1995)
(Soft Ware Creations BBS has an update patch for the CD-ROM super version
1.2b to upgrade to 1.3 and it is listed as R13CDPT.ZIP (790465 bytes). They
have an update for the shareware version also and it is listed as
R13SWPT.ZIP (698716 bytes). They have an update for the standard floppy
version but I didn't notice as it wouldn't apply to me [sorry!]).
I tried the patch out and it cured the lockup problem if you decided to
cheat and get God Mode when you meet El Oscuro in E4 A7. (9/9/95)

The following COMMAND LINE parameter was applied to the ROTT CDROM Version
1.2a and it is in the following format:

WARP Go to the episode and area (level) of your choice.
               Episode 1 Areas 2 to 7, enter as WARP 2 to 7
Defeating Boss in Area 7 takes you to E2A1 [Bypasses A8]
WARP 8 Lets you play E1A8 (secret area)
	       Episode 2 Areas 1 to 7, enter as WARP 9 to 15
Defeating Boss in Area 7 takes you to E3A1 [Bypasses A8]
WARP 16 Lets you play E2A8 (secret area)
               Episode 3 Areas 1 to 7, enter as WARP 17 to 23
Defeating Boss in Area 7 takes you to E4A1 [Bypasses A8]
WARP 24 Lets you play E3A8 (secret area)
	       Episode 4 Areas 1 to 13, enter as WARP 25 to 36
Episode 4 is 13 areas with "Hellish" pedicaments
to overcome! Try WARP 34 for a real vile monster or
WARP 36 for a real "trip!"

Other command line parameters:

DOPEFISH If you want to see one of id's creators appear as a slinky like
creature complete with belching noises at the opening and hear
belching on level loads then use DOPEFISH.

SILLY When you play ROTT, during the loading screen, the level name
is displayed. If you use this parameter, the level name will be
             replaced with a silly saying.

FILE This is the name of a user added wad file for ROTT. You
wouldn't actually type FILE, you'd type in the name of the file
to be used by ROTT. You can add three such files at once using
             this method.

SOUNDSETUP Makes ROTT go through setting up your sound card.

VER Shows the version of ROTT you are playing.

SLOWDEATH When you die in ROTT, this will let you see your death in slow
motion, as opposed to the normal speed it's shown at.

NOWAIT This will bypass all opening cinematics and screens,
and will place you at the Main Menu.

NOW This will bypass all menus and screens, and will automatically
place you into the game in Level 1, as the default character,
             and the default difficulty.

PAUSE This will bring up a "Press any key to continue" prompt when
             you first run the game.

MAPSTATS This will output the map statistics (ie: Number of different
walls, doors, etc.) of the current level to the file
             MAPINFO.TXT.

TILESTATS This will output the tile statistics (ie: Number of different
actors, plants, objects, etc) of the current level to the file
             MAPINFO.TXT.

[Additional parameters below were copied from the ROTTHELP for version 1.3
and some were available on the earlier versions too!]

Please note that while these are intended for use with the ROTT game, you
can use them on the setup program. The setup program will pass any command
line parameters to the ROTT game that were given to it.

Here is a list of the command line parameters you can use with ROTT.

? Gives you a list of all the common command line parameters used
             by Rise of the Triad.

NOSOUND This option turns off all sounds (both music and sound effects)
for the game, and makes it silent.

QUIET Disables all displays of text (except error msgs) that would
normally occur before the title screen.

NOJOYS This turns off joystick detection. Useful if you are getting
false joystick detection. Use this if the menus just start
scrolling on their own, with no input from you.

NOMOUSE This turns off mouse detection. If your menus start scrolling
on their own, and the NOJOYS parameter didn't fix it, try this
instead. If you still get self-scrolling menus, try using both
             NOJOYS and NOMOUSE together.

NOECHO Disables reverb/echo sound.

DEMOEXIT Forces the game to exit to DOS if the demo loop is interrupted
             (by a keypress).

SPACEBALL This turns on detection for the Spaceball controller.

CYBERMAN Turns on detection for the Cyberman controller.

ASSASSIN Turns on detection for the Logitech Wingman Assassin.

ENABLEVR Enables driver for virtual reality hardware. Contact your VR
             hardware vendor for support.

TIMELIMIT Allows you to play for a certain amount of time with unlimited
lives. Killing enemies and picking up life items adds time to
the clock. (This is for standalone play only.) If you use
this, you MUST also use MAXTIMELIMIT.

MAXTIMELIMIT Sets the maximum time limit you can play, so you can only earn
up to this many seconds of time.

LEVELSIZE Computes the amount of memory needed to run a particular level.

Other special notes:
1) The secret arches leading to the secret level area are located in the
E1 A3 in both the shareware episode (The Fourth Door) and the full
registered version (Burned and Amazed). Only with regard to the full
version, the second secret arch is in E2 A5 (Rocky Plateau), the third
secret arch is in E3 A6 (Movin' Walls) and the fourth secret arch is in
E4 A4 (Diamonds and Rust).
2) Extra points abound in the full registered version with four special
"bounties" available that will give you a s***pot load of points if you bag
them all.
  a) Become a head hunter and bag the head of Apogee's president Scott
Miller; the mug you see if you run the DOPEFISH command line parameter.
Scott's mug may be encountered for the gain of 2,764,331 bonus points in
E2 A3 (The Room) but watch your step!
  b) Find the three Developer Balls for a big boost in your final score.
The "D" ball is in E2 A6 (The Four Way Chamber)
The "I" ball is in E3 A3 (Dead In Five Seconds)
The "P" ball is in E4 A6 (Circles Of Fire)
None of the balls are easy to find and it would take a novel for me to be
able to describe in words on the ways to find them. Get Wayne Sikes' great
program (freeware too!) on the SWC BBS known as ROTTED11.ZIP and you will be
able to find all four items! Now at least you know that they exist!
3) If you are eager to get a look at the rolling crushing boulders use \GTL
to go to E3 A4 (Clear And Present Danger) and take the hallway to your left
from the start position after taking out the patrolbots to your right! You
will see the boulders rolling after you open the first double door to your
right (in the hallway that was to your left). This must be the 3D view that
resembles what Rockford sees in the Boulderoid nee' Boulderdash game that is
also available on SWC BBS as BOULD112.ZIP and look for my extra caves as
BOULDCAV.ZIP
4) If you want a sneak preview of what the crushing cylinders are all about
just sneak over to E4 A3 (Crushing Defeat) and you will not have to look
too hard. Watch out for they will put you into dog mode (Dachsund) without
the fur coat if you get my drift!

*CORRECTIONS! YES, I DO MAKE MISTAKES AND I AM SORRY FOR MIS-INFORMATION!*
Effective 9/12/95:
Secret arch episodes and areas were corrected! Not all arches to the secret
areas are always in area 3 of each episode. This is what happens when you
can't read your notes and it is late at night and you are tired! Two places
in which the text went off the page when using NOTEPAD were fixed. Also the
word used by me in the BBS description is cognoscenti not cognescenti
(o after n instead of e) which means: those who have superior knowledge of
a particular field. I do not claim to be a cognoscente (singular), the true
ones are those that write the game code (support them - don't pirate their
genius!) and people such as Wayne Sikes whose genius bestowed upon us
ROTTED11. Mr. Sikes says ROTTED is FREEWARE but I do believe that he would
be inspired for greater things if people would cut him a donation check for
his efforts if they choose to use his masterwork! I have never met him so
I am not having any self interest! I am but a mere scavenger of the tidbits
that are dropped by the real gurus! rsb

An apologetic gift follows:
If you get Wayne Sikes' ROTTED11 then you will be able to use it to see:
The "D" ball in E2 A6 (The Four Way Chamber) in CELL XY=46,85
The "I" ball in E3 A3 (Dead In Five Seconds) in CELL XY=98,94
The "P" ball in E4 A6 (Circles Of Fire) in CELL XY=40,2
Scott Miller's Head Bounty in E2 A3 (The Room) in CELL XY=113,36
I am sorry to say that ROTTED'S cell coordinates do not agree with the
coordinates given by the \HUD cheat.

Apogee's best at the age of 45 years!
