                                   Disclaimer

With the wide variety of Amiga hardware configurations
available I can not guarantee this program will work
          properly with every possible system.

I also can not guarantee that this program will be
compatible with every piece of software you could possibly
          run in the background.

                                  Requirements

Hardware requirements: 512K RAM, Floppy Drive. For
best results 1 MEG of RAM and a
                                  Hard Drive.

Operating System: Most of the program testing was with
OS 2.04. This program does not use
any OS 2.04 specific funtions so OS 1.3
should work fine. I have use this
program with OS 1.3 and not had any
                                  problems.

NOTE: This porgram could act strange if you run low on
memory. Some symptoms would be the program exiting
or the editor not working properly. If you only have
512K you will want to make sure you have as much RAM
as possible free when using this program.

                                  Introduction

I wrote this program for my own use when I discovered there
really was not a program out that could simply keep track
of recipe cards and print them out.

Vic's Recipe Box is a graphic data base program that is
specifically designed for cataloging and printing recipe
          cards.

This program can have 52 different categories to store
recipes in. Each category can hold 52 recipes.

There are 5 graphic windows that you will use to find,
display, print, and edit your recipe.

The first window is located at the bottom of the screen.
It contains the control buttons that will be used on the
other windows. The buttons & there usage will be detailed
          later.

The second window displays 52 file folders. This one is
used for your main categories. (soups, appetizers, etc.)

The third window displays one file folder that will list
          all the recipes in it.

The fourth window is a recipe card. It will display the
          recipe.

The fifth window is the card editor window. This is the
window you use to edit new or old recipes.

            Vic's Recipe Box page 6

                              Installation & Setup

I recommend you keep this program in its own directory. It
will create a lot of files as you add more categories and
          recipes.

          USING FROM A FLOPPY

          1. Format a floppy disk using your favorite disk formattor.
          2. Drag the drawer icon from the original Recipe Box disk
             to the new floppy.
          3. Run the program on the new disk and put your original
             away in a safe place.

NOTE!: I recommend you also keep a current backup of your
work disk. The Amiga seems prone to disk errors.
It's better to be safe than sorry.

           USING FROM A HARD DRIVE
           1. Drag the drawer icon from the original Recipe Box disk
              to the hard drive.
           2. Run the program on the hard drive and put your original
              away in a safe place.

You can also create a directory and drag the Recipe Box
icon in it. By doing this you will have a completely empty
          box until you add data.

Another option would be to use the PATH button and allow
Recipe Box to look in the path you select. By doing this
you can put the program anywhere. Make sure you enter the
          correct path.

NOTE: If the program seems to have trouble finding data in
its own directory make sure that the path string is
completely blank. Watch out spaces that might not
                have been deleted.

                           Using the Category Window

This is the window with all the file folders. The data on
this window is sorted like it would be in a recipe box.
The first item is at the lower left.

NOTE: Selections will be made from this window even if you
page the recipe box program into the back ground. If
you wish to go to another screen, select a recipe
card to view to prevent the program from selecting a
cards and folders you don't want while you could be
clicking on the Workbench or other screens.

Here is a list of the Buttons and how there used.

                      resides in.

                      explanation of this button.

printer to print on the back. This option was
added to eliminate the need for using two card

                            Importing and Exporting

All the folders and cards in the folders now have icons
that are accessable from the Workbench. If you want to
give a friend a copy of a recipe, simply open the window
where the card or folder is and pick it up and drop it on
there desination disk. You can also move recipes from
          one folder (drawer) to another.

Any time new files are added in this manner you will need
to select the REBUILD button in the apropriat folder or the
catalog window if you added a whole folder to your
directory. You will need to REBUILD to update folders that
you have moved recipes to and from so the program knows what
you have done. If you have problems removing or viewing a
directory or recipe make sure everything has been rebuilt.

When you select REBUILD the program collects all the files
that appear to be folders or recipe cards. If the program
encounters files it is unsure about it will prompt you in
the bottom right of the screen and ask you if you want to
          include a questionable file.

NOTE: Never rename files from the Workbench. Recipe Box is
very picky about file names. If you need to change a
                name use the EDIT option.

NOTE: For best results you might want to quit Recipe Box when
you are messing with its files. If the Workbench or other
file copy program has a lock on a file Recipe Box may mot be
able to manipulate the file or directory (folder).

Using Vic's Recipe Box 2.2 with older 1.x data files

If you already own an older version of the program here is
a quick step by step list to get this new version up and
          running quick.

          1. BACKUP your directory/disk that contains your old
              program.
          2. From the Workbench pick up the new "VicsRecipeBox"
icon and drop it in your directory/disk you just backed
              up.
          3. Double-Click on VicsRecipeBox you just copied to your
              directory/disk.
          4. Select the REBUILD button. You will be asked if each
of your old folders is a "Recipe Box Folder". Select
yes if the name listed is.
          5. When your finished you will need to do the same thing
in each folder. There will be one file called
"Recipe Box...data" say NO on this. It is a data file
that was used with the old program.
          6. That is it...

All your old folders and cards will now have icons. You
are now able to access these like any normal Workbench
files. From the Workbench The recipe folders are drawers.
You can double-click on them and see all your cards in that
folder/drawer. This makes swapping recipes with other
users easy. Be sure to REBUILD the folders you add or remove
cards from so the program will know what you did.

                            Vic's Recipe Box History

v2.2 ... (this is available for $3.00 to registered V1.x users)
                   * Fixed a bug with the folder remove option.
                   * Modified the program so it can handle most all types
                     if characters for file names.

v2.1 ... * Modified the program to only open windows when
they are needed. By doing this it frees up CHIP
mem and makes RB less of a memory hog.
                   * RB should work much better with 512K machines.
                   * Fixed a few bugs.
                   * Removed the MOVE option. Use the import/export
                     option to move cards.

v2.0 ... * As you have noticed. Changed the name of the
program from "The Recipe Box" to "Vic's Recipe
Box" to avoid any copyright conflicts with a
program on the Atari ST platform.
                   * Rewrote the editor.
                   * Added an option to have data on the back of a
                     card.
                   * Added a user friendly import/export option.

v1.2 ... * Fixed the bugs I created by fixing the editor in
                     V1.1

v1.1 ... * Fixed a few bugs with sorting and the editor.

v1.0 ... * Created "The Recipe Box" for my own use in
