This program may be distributed freely, providing that all of it's pieces are
in tact. It is written in Visual Basic 1.0, and requires the driver file
VBRUN100.DLL. It will not run with the driver for Visual Basic 2.0
(VBRUN200.DLL). If you do not have a copy of the driver it may be downloaded
from America On Line. This version of this program is SHAREWARE.
If you decide to use this program regularly, please see section 5 for
registration information.

			 RPG Assistant V1.0
1. What is it?
This program is used to assist the role playing game (RPG) Game Master
(GM) using the GURPS role-playing game system. It automates several
of the more tedious tasks that are required of a GM. I use my computer
quite extensively when gaming, and find this application indispensable. I
   hope it helps you.

2. How do I get it running?
Unzip the file into your choice of directory. From program manager
choose "FILE" from the top menu bar. A drop down menu will appear.
Select "NEW" from the drop down menu. Select "Program item". A box
will appear on the screen. In the box will be a button marked browse.
This brings up a directory tree selection box. Find the directory
that you have unzipped the RPG Assistant files to, and locate the file
called RPGASST.EXE. Double click that file, in the next box click the
OK button, and the ICON should appear in program manager. Double click
the Icon and you are ready to go.

3. What's in it?
   A. Size/Range modifier table. Upon start up of the program, the
Size/Range modifier window appears. This window calculates the
size, range, and speed of the target, to produce the required
modifier for missile weapons. Enter the size range and speed of
the target, then check the appropriate boxes to indicate that the
number given is in yards, feet or inches for each, and click the
       button.
   B. Tables. From the menu bar of the Size/Range modifier window, you
may select "TABLES" to gain access to several other useful
functions. You can generate random critical misses, critical hits,
and location struck. In addition to these random events the
       following tables are available:

		Armor Table
		Mental Skills Cost Table
		Physical Skills Cost Table
		Skills List
		Advantages List
		Disadvantages List

When the skills, advantages, and disadvantages list are selected
the Windows notepad is started and loaded with the list selected. You
must have the Windows notepad in your windows directory for these
functions to work. This was done so that the files could be
altered according to your own tastes. Only the basic information has
been included for these lists in this version. To exit from the armor,
mental skills, and physical skills tables click anywhere on the
window when you are through consulting the table.
   C. Dice. On the menu bar of the Size/Range table you will see a
selection for Dice. This drop down menu contains two entries,
Die Roller, and Mass Combat. Lets deal with the die roller
selection first. When selected this will bring up the Die
Roller window. This window allows you to roll 1,2, or 3 six
sided dice. Simply click the button to gain the result. In
addition this window has a menu bar with selections to display the
current date and time. When the Mass Combat combat selection is made,
the Mass Combat window will appear. This window can serve two functions,
calculating damage to a party when facing multiple identical foes, or
calculating the damage to the foe when one character is facing
multiple identical opponents. For the first use enter the name of
each character, and each characters damage resistance. Then enter
the damage die and modifier for the opponent. For each round
check the box marked "HIT" for each character taking damage, and
click the roll button. This will determine damage randomly for
each character struck, minus damage resistance. In the second
example, enter the designation (name) for each opponent, and their
respective damage resistance's. Then enter the damage die and
modifier for the player character. When the foe is struck check
the "HIT" box and click the roll button. Both the Die Roller and
Mass Combat windows have been sized so that they fit on the screen
with the Range/Speed modifier window. How ever all three may by
sized or minimized by the user.

5. What's next?
This version was written in Visual Basic 1.0. I have upgraded the
RPG Assistant to Visual Basic 2.0. Applications written in VB. 2.0
run about twice as fast, and compile down to about half the size.
The Skills, Advantages, and Disadvantages have been updated with a
bit more information, as well as a few minor changes in the program
itself. If you would like a copy of RPG Assistant 2.0 send a $10.00
check or money order to the above address. The cost for registering
RPG Assistant 1.0 is $5.00. If you are a registered user of version
1.0 and wish to upgrade, send the original disk and $5.00 and I'll
return it to you with the Version 2.0 files on it. Make payments to
	Wesley Lathan.

6. A few words about GURPS and Steve Jackson Games.
So that there is no confusion, neither I nor L&L services is
associated with Steve Jackson games in any way. I enjoy his products
and don't wish to infringe on his copyrights.
