I. INTRODUCTION
---------------

Welcome and thank you for trying this software!

This file contains late-breaking news about PTSGUIDE, the Print
Table Structure Guide for Paradox for Windows 5.0. It describes
how to install PTSGUIDE, how to start it, where to find
information about using the Guide, and also notes any late-
breaking changes to the Guide.

Use Notepad or another text editor to print this file. It is a
straight ASCII file with no formatting, save line breaks on each
line.

II. INSTALLING AND STARTING THE GUIDE
-------------------------------------

1. To install the Guide, begin by uncompressing (using PKZIP,
PKUNZIP, or a compatible file compression utility) your .ZIP
file. (If you're reading this file, you've probably already
    done this.)

2. Next, copy the files in your .ZIP file (generally PTS*.*) to
your Paradox 5.0 private directory. (You can avoid this step
by uncompressing the files to your private directory in the
    first place.

3. After installing the Guide, start Paradox and then open
    PTSGUIDE.FDL.

For information about installing the Guide into Paradox's Expert
Control Panel, see HINTS, TIPS, AND OTHER GOOD STUFF.

III. FOR MORE INFORMATION
-------------------------

For information about what the Guide does and how to use the
Guide:

1. Choose the Info button (the blue circle containing a white
"i") on Step 1 of the Guide for a very brief introduction.

2. Press <F1> while the Guide is running to open the Guide's
Help file on the Contents page.

3. Choose the Help button on any Step of the Guide for context
    sensitive help with that Step.

4. While the Guide Help file is open, use the Search button and
the Related Information topics to browse different topics of
    the Help file.

IV. LAST MINUTE CHANGES TO THE GUIDE
------------------------------------

At this time, there have been no last minute changes. (That's a
change, isn't it?) For a list of the changes made to the Guide
since the last release, see the "Revision History" topic in the
online Help file.

V. HINTS, TIPS, AND OTHER GOOD STUFF
------------------------------------

If you install the Guide into Paradox's Expert Control Panel, you
can have the Guide available from any directory you're working in.
The EXPSETUP.SDL script can help, though you must close any files
associated with the Guide or the Paradox Experts before running
that script.

You can also make the Guide more available by adding it to the
Paradox menus. To do this, use Notepad to edit the PXDLITE.INI
file in your Windows directory and then add the following line
to the [File], [Tools], or [Utilities] sections of this file.

Print T&able Structure...=<FullPathName>\PTSGUIDE.FDL

where <FullPathName> is a fully qualified directory path
describing where you installed the Guide.

If you do not have the desired section in your PXDLITE.INI
file, you can add it after any other sections in the file,
though leave a blank line between sections.

Also, verify that "A" is not used as a menu short-cut for any
other commands in the menu where you installed the Guide.
This should not be a problem if you installed to Guide to a
fresh copy of Paradox; however, there may be additional tools
and add-ins using that key as a menu shortcut.

To use an alternate menu shortcut key, move the ampersand
(&) in front of another letter. Be aware that it is not
completely necessary to do this, for Paradox will support
duplicate menu shortcut keys.

VI. ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE GUIDE
---------------------------------------------------------

This section contains answers to frequently asked questions
(FAQ's) about the Guide.

Questions about registration or distribution of the Guide:

Q: I understand that this is a shareware release of the Guide.
Can I give this to friends, collegues, or coworkers?

A: Yes, provided you provide all the files you received with this
release and that you do not modify them prior to giving them out.

Q: How do I register the Guide, what does it cost, and what do I
    gain by registering?

A: See the online Help topic titled "Registering the Guide."

Q: Can I give copies of the Registered version of the Guide to
    others?

A: Not without making prior arrangements with the author directly.
If you're unsure whether these arrangements have been made,
click The Information icon (the circled "i") on Step 1 of the
Guide. This displays a dialog box describing the release you
have, its version number, and your distribution arrangements.
In the Registered version, this information is available from
the Options button in Step 1.

You should note that you may personally use the Registered
version of the Guide on a work machine and a home (or portable)
machine, provided you aren't using both machines at the same
time. For more information, see the online Help system.

Q: How can I get the latest version of the Guide?

A: Contact me directly, using the information provided in the
    online documentation.

General Questions about using the Guide:

Q: When I run the Guide, it prints table structures that I printed
    earlier. What's happening?

A: This is something that the Guide's designed to do. It "collects"
your table structures and saves them to a table in your private
directory, providing a very simple mechanism for printing the
structures of tables in several directories in a single report.

If you don't want to print structures from a earlier use of the
Guide, choose "Empty previous information" in Step 2 of the
    Guide.

Q: When I run the Guide or the Expert Setup script, I get a
Paradox error indicating that the file needs to be recompiled.
Why does this happen and how do I fix it?

A: This error appears if you try to run the Guide under a version
of Paradox for Windows earlier than 5.0. Unfortunately, the
Guide doesn't support earlier versions of Paradox. You must
upgrade in order to use the Guide--which is a good idea
anyway, for Paradox 5.0 offers some significant improvements,
including new features, speed improvements, and some very
    useful bug fixes.

Troubleshooting Questions:

Q: An error dialog appears while the Guide is creating the report.
It says "Blob file not found or corrupt." What's happening?

A: You have selected a table containing a memo field and Paradox
can't find (or access) the associated BLOB (e.g. .MB) file.
For more information, including possible causes and strategies
for fixing the problem, see the "Troubleshooting" topic in the
    online Help file.

Q: The report created by the Guide reports that it couldn't open
a table and gives an error code. Why?

This happens when Paradox, for whatever reason, can't open a
table. Instead of halting the documentation process, the Guide
reports the error and continues. For possible causes, fix
strategies, and a list of the error messages, see the
"Troubleshooting" topic in the Guide's online Help file.

Q: How do I get technical support for the Guide?

A: All users of the Guide can receive support via CompuServe by
sending email to 76117,3050 or via Internet by sending email
to 76117.3050@compuserve.com. Support for users of the
Guide's Shareware release is limited to configuration and
hints about getting started. Registered users will receive
full technical support, including advice and a voice in the
    Guide's continued development (if any).

IX. KNOWN PROBLEMS

1. The Guide will not display tables whose first letter is an
extended character. (This will be fixed in a maintenance
release to the Guide, which will be provided to Registered
    users only.)

There are no other known problems at this time.
