                          -HEARTBREAK RIDGE-

                 To Korean land, 'tho time does flow,
                  Our best of men were forced to go;
                 "Heartbreak Ridge" was a placed they
             Tried to bravely capture; instead they died.

               Now, broken, battered, hurt and burned,
               From my own "Heartbreak Ridge" I learned
                 Explosive love can change and churn
                 To where the roots of suicide burn.

              For, unlike those soldiers, I did not know
              It's up "Heartbreak Ridge" I'll try to go;
                Instead I found a great climb of joy,
              With true love and passion, and not a toy.

                Without any shame, I'll here now admit
              Those hours of crying, with a sobbing fit;
                Yet, I hate him not, and I never will,
             For I candidly admit that I love him still.

             So often I've heard women cry and complain:
              "Men are no good; they're macho and vain;
             They love to play games with a female heart,
           They want one thing from the very first start."

            O, God, how I wish that I could feel that way,
               But the joy he gave me will forever stay
                Sealed deep within this broken heart;
             For God has declared some lovers must part.

               Like Emily Dickenson I could now become
                A broken spinster, and my life the sum
                Of a thousand poems I've yet to write,
            Until death delivers that awaited sweet night.

           'Tho I could stay forever on "Heartbreak Ridge,"
          I'll try and look beyond for that unmapped bridge
              That will free me from this painful fate,
          Where I might find another, 'tho the hour is late.
