I don't beleive that the only two replys to the original post so far have
been "keep yourselves in the closet, you don't belong on phish.net"
posts.

What the fuck? Kids, this net is for everyone who likes phish. Yes, gays
and lesbians like phish. They have a right, and are totally welcome to
announce their presence here. If you happen to be looking for people who
like phish and also share something else in common with you, you are welcome
to post here. I could post "any creative writing majors who like Phish?" or
"any blondes who like Phish?" or even "any gay men who like phish?" (no
trivializing of sexuality intended).

So, Steph, get over your hostility.

And as far as "we don't care", I do.

I care. And I welcome posts by bisexuals, gays, and lesbians on this net.

I also welcome supportive replies to this post. Let's not let our silence
make some folks feel unwelcome.

I am writing a video game, and I would like to use Phish music
from live tapes that I have for the background music. It wouldn't
be complete songs, just short samples. Does anyone know if this
is legal or not? Would I have to get permission or something?
The game will be shareware and distributed for free, but none the
less there will be a full registered version that would actually be sold.

I have to concur that it Demand is Greeeaaaattt! (in the immortal words
of Tony Tiger) driving music. Coming back from a stay withe a friend out at
Buffalo we were playing the CD. On comes Demand and my best friend and I wer
listening to it. Completely forgot that the song was being listened to by
a person while in a car. The end crash took both of us by suprise and we jus
looked at each other withe a simultaneous "Wow!". I started out driving arou
70 mph., ended up doing around 90 and not even realizing it. There is a lot
energy within that song.

Why is it that just because they have become rather popular and
now they are asking for more money they are sell-outs. If they started
to change their music just to sell more albums, then perhaps you might
have a point, but I don't think they have. Success doesn't always mean
sell-out.

Come on guys, everything in life is gonna have something in it that we
don't like. Nothing is perfect. We've got a great band here to listen &
groove to. Can't we all just get over this bickering about why we don't
like this or that song, or why we hate newbies because they're just new,
or why people wearing baseball caps ruin shows??? Come on. look how
silly that is. Phish is a great band, enjoy them for that. Stop letting
stupid unimportant little things get in the way of your enjoying the
band. I don't care if the next show I go to is full of grumpy old men
from the senior citizens home, or 50,000 kindergarten children, I'm gonna
enjoy the jam & have a great time. Only you can make it good for
yourself. ENJOY IT!

share the groove....with everyone!

Here are a few other things to add to the list:

4) EXCHANGE PHONE NUMBERS! If the person you are trading with is a
sincere trader but some problem either personal or with their Internet
account comes up you can still get in touch with them. Of course if they
lied about their phone number this doesn't help. If you are real paranoid
about making trades on the net you can give them a call before making the
trade to see if they gave you the right number. Good thing the net hasn't
gotten to that point.

5) Don't make big trades when trading with someone for the first time.
Make a 2 tape trade before getting carried away with 10 tape trade. The
smaller the trade the less you are burned if the trade falls through.

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a reliable rating system. I
have been trying to use a rating system for a while but I can't seem to get
it efficient yet. I have around 400+ hrs and getting a system to accurately
and efficiently rate tapes is difficult. Also has anyone else noticed how
many people rank nearly all of their tapes as A+/A/A-. I do not understand.
I have many tapes that have come right off the DAT and I would not consider
A+. I consider A+ to be CD quality without skips, jumps, cuts, etc. Clear,
crisp, good highs and lows, etc. There is no way that some others share this
rating. Maybe this is because some are listening to their tapes on small,
low quality systems. Also I noticed that the tapes I ranked as high quality
when I first started collecting are not the same tapes I would rank as HQ
today.

Does anyone have any idea how to digitally measure the quality of a tape.
I have considered recording samples of the tape (digitally of course) and
then trying to measure them. I have a NeXT Cube and access to Digital Ears
(uses DSP) so I should be able to record out of my deck directly to the HD at
44.1. Also I have software to measure basically every possible item about the
sound (FFT, Spectrum, etc. etc. etc.). I guess I could measure the amount of
background hiss, level of highs, level of lows, what else? Then assign each
of these a weighted value and thus give the tape a rank. Any ideas would
be greatly appreciated.

Hello :-)

This was a sold out show (18,000) at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto, Ontario,
Canada. The name of the band is the Tragically Hip. They are huge in Canada.
Their latest release, Day For Night, over four times platinum in Canada,
was released in the U.S. on Valentines Day.

They are on an 19 city tour which will gross over 4 Million dollars. All
shows were sold out within 75 minutes. But the band, much like alot of
touring based bands, care about their fans, and released 500 seats before
the show to thwart the couging scalpers outside the venue. Furthermore,
agian like most touring based bands, fans trade live tapes of the bands
