                ========================================
     This is a BETA release and as such, has not completed testing. Use
this program at your own risk. I have been running this software for
nearly a week and have experienced no ill effects but, that doesn't mean
that you will not.

     Please report any problems and/or suggestions that you have. I'll
get the bugs fixed and try and incorporate as many features as I can
before the final release. Should there be a fatal bug in this release,
I will get it resolved and release another Wide Beta.

Please report all bugs and suggestions via the following means. DO NOT
post any msgs in PC_SITES or PLANET_CONNECT. They will more than likely
be ignored as is most of that garbage in those two echos.

                ========================================

1> Create a directory to hold the files in this archive.

2> Copy the files into the door directory.

3> Change to the door directory and create a sub-directory named
     "\SCREENS"

4> Edit the STOCKS.CFG and STOCKS.SYS to suit your particular BBS
     software. You may rename the .CFG file but, DO NOT rename the
     STOCKS.SYS file. The door looks for that filename only.

5> Edit the DOOR.BAT for your BBS situation.

6> Run the READSTK.EXE program and compile your first database. You
     will need to manually UNZIP the PCSTOKxx.xxx file and retrieve the
     QUOTES.ASC file.

     READSTK G:\QUOTES

     DO NOT enter a filename on the command line, the program defaults
     to QUOTES.ASC.

     I wrote a batch file that my mailer uses to automatically update
     the database as new files come down the satellite. You will need
     to work out a solution for you particular situation.

     If you are running under Win95, You can set up the Scheduling Agent
     (SAGE) to check for new files periodically. Read the SAGE
     instructions.

     My mailer is Platinum Xpress and it allows me to look for Semaphore
     files and act on them. I set up PCSTOK*.* as a semaphore and PX
     runs my PCSTOK.BAT when a new archive arrives.

7> Set the door up in your BBs setup.

8> Login and check it out.

Please report any bugs and enhancements that you find. I can't
guarantee that all enhancements will get into the program but, i'll do
my best as time allows.

You may also run this in LOCAL mode. "STOCKS LOCAL" make sure that you
have compiled the database before running the door.

Note: READSTK.EXE will not execute if the door is in operation. It
       will try to run up to 5 times and them abort. The door will not
       allow a user if READSTK.EXE is running. This prevents share
       violations in the database.

       In the upper right hand corner of your screen, you may see
       several symbols. They are debugging info.

       S = Shared detected.
       W = Windows Detected
       4 = 4DOS detected
       D = DesqView detected.

       Check these symbols and make sure that they match your setup.
       You MUST load SHARE for the door to operate properly. All files
       are opened in SHARE mode.

SCREENS:

     At the present time, I have not created the screens for the door.
     If you have any artistic ability and would like to assist, they are
     named as follows.

     WELCOME.ANS
     WELCOME.ASC

          These are the initial logon screens for the door. The ANSI
          screen must be no wider than 78 characters and should not have
          a ClearScreen character. "e]2J"

          Neither screen can be no more than 17 lines in length.

     INSTRUCT.ANS
     INSTRUCT.ASC

          These are the help screens. The ANSI cannot be more than 78
          characters wide. The length of this file does not matter.

     SPECIAL.TXT

          This is a straight ASCii file and it displays immediately
          after the WELCOME.xxx screen. This file should contain any
          pertinent info that you wish to convey to the door users.

          The .ANS and .ASC files go into the "\SCREENS" directory. The
          SPECIAL.TXT goes in the door directory.

          The .ASC files should be plain ASCii with no RIP, ANSI or
          special color codes. The does DOES NOT recognize BBS color
          codes.
